    HI :wave
I am the administrator on my computer. I have windows XP w svc pkg 2. Under internet options, under security I want to review my content settings, but I cannot remember my supervisor's password. The clue doesn't help me at all. Does anyone :banghead know how I go about resetting that hint and/or resetting my password?

to go to safe mode, just hit f8 a lot of times when you turn on your computer and there will be a screen that has a whole bunch of options like "start windows normally", "safe mode", and what not like that. just choose safe mode or safe mode with networking if you'll need to get on your network or the internet.

 EEEEdiot (actually very clever also:)). Thank you for your reply and advice. I did what you said and got the computer into safe mode. I then went to Control Panel, Internet options, security, and content settings and the same supervisor's password hint question came up :cry, which was no help. I tried typing in another password and got shot down again. Perhaps a supervisor is not the same as an administrator? I was given this computer and I do remember setting the content ie: no violence or animal cruelty, so I must have been able to set content at one time, but the hint question is not like me at all and nothing I try works. I think when you get to be my age the hint question for all passwords should be: "something that can't be remembered is______".
The password then being: "forgotten". :banghead
:wave Thanks again, I'm beyond frustrated at this point, and it's time for the Super Bowl, so I have to go!

I personally use firefox XD so I don't have to worry about passwords.

I see no one ever addressed your question properly. Here is the answer you need. The below registry patch will delete your password and the hint you specified.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as delCApwd.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure you get a success message about adding this to the registry.

Afterwards, reboot your PC, run Internet Explorer and check that it worked.

If you don't know how to open notepad, just click Start, select Run, and enter notepad into the run box and click OK..

    chaslang,
Thank you for the info and (for realizing I would not know how to open notepad). Unfortunetly I am out of printer ink so I cannot print your directions:( in order to try your recommendations. I will save the e-mail and print out and try the directions ASAP.
I will let you know how I make out later.
Sometimes I feel really stupid asking what probably are stupid questions:confused, but being almost 59 years old I think the fact that I am willing to try new things is a good thing.

You're welcome Beth. You don't really have to print the instructions. Just keep your browser window open with the information in front of you and perform the steps.

Do you know how to copy and paste the bold info I gave you into notepad? If not, the below link my help explain it to you:

How To Cut (Copy) And Paste

Also when you save the notepad file make sure that you follow the instructions carefully as written or else you will not create a file with the .reg file extension. Notepad will default to saving files with a .txt extension which you will not be able to add into the registry by double clicking on it. Double clicking on a .txt file will just cause notepad to open displaying the contents of the file.

This was not a stupid question. The only stupid question is the one that is not asked. ;)

Can't view/change password in IE "content"

    :confused Internet options content

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My computer is a hand me down, under internet options I can set all the options for security etc, but cannot set the option for content. I am administrator and I know I set content once as I want no violence to people or animals, no showing of explicit sexual acts etc, but I cannot review and reset content as I cannot remember my password.

The clue is no help as it is "my favorite exercise "- and I HATE to exercise. I have no clue how to fix this. I think that the question for all persons over 50 should be "when something cannot be remembered, it's __________."
the password would then be "FORGOTTEN ! At least then I could remember my passwords.
Can anyone help me with this?????

    HI

Maybe wise to start a new thread and list your issue with also some info into what Windows version your using etc, as while an issue may seem simialr frm someone else its not always the case.

How many different ways can we state, if content advisor is on the computer your friend purchased and he wasn't given the password, no browser will work. You can keep clicking the E or the FF or Opera icon but you will not connect until you supply the password.
