RootKit.0Access.H

    Yesterday I noticed a continuos activity from firewall (Comodo) icon, and the log showed lots of ping to various IP, and set Comodo to not allow ping.exe to connect to internet.
    Then firefox started to open (not very often) tabs pointing to the site delivery.jemacpv.com, and an internet search told me that it is a malware symptom, and to use MalwareBytesAM.
    A scan with MBAM found and fixed some problems. Jemacpv tabs were still showing, so I started MBAM again, and it found 2 RootKit.0Access.H with the same dll. Remove, restart windows, and the rootkits are still there, just with the name changed.
    An internet search led me here.
    So, following your instructions, I did everything in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" post.
    I had just a problem following "Window XP Malware removal": The AVG remover locked my PC, so I had to reboot.
    Then couldn't start windows normally (just flashed a blue screen and restarted, unti I started in safe mode, then in normal mode again)
    Now I have AVG's tray Icon with some voices in grey and, if I try to uninstall it from control panel, the answer is "Program not installed".
    Anyway, I did the full XP Malware removal.
    After that, MBAM still shows 2 RootKit.0Access.H, so I'm posting here to ask for help.
    Last question: can I reinstall AVG or wait until you tell me to do it?
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi and welcome to Major Geeks, ElGato!

    [IMG] From Add/Remove Programs (via Control Panel), please uninstall the below:
    • 1680X1050 Screen Saver
    • AVG 2012 --> AVGremover <-- Download and run
    • eMule
    • Fantastic Flame Screensaver

    [IMG] Fixing items using ComboFix
    Make sure that ComboFix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your desktop -- but do not run it.
    If it is not on your desktop, the below will not work.
    Shut down your protection software now (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts.
    Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into Notepad:
    Code:
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]KillAll::[/COLOR]
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]ClearJavaCache::[/COLOR]
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]Driver::[/COLOR]
    AVGIDSEH
    AVGIDSDriver

    AVGIDSShim

    [COLOR="DarkRed"]File::[/COLOR]
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\AVGIDSEH.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ib2.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ib3.tmp

    Save this file as CFScript.txt to your desktop. So now you should have both CFScript.txt and ComboFix.exe on your desktop.
    Now use your mouse to drag CFScript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe and then release.
    [IMG]
    This will launch ComboFix.
    Note: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
    Allow ComboFix to update itself if prompted.
    When ComboFix finishes, a log will be produced at C:\ComboFix.txt
    Attach this log to your next message. (How to attach)

    C:\Documents and Settings\El Gato\Desktop\80839596.swf <-- Delete if you do not know what it is

    [IMG] Now run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat by double-clicking it.
    This updates all of the logs inside MGlogs.zip.
    When it is finished, attach C:\MGlogs.zip to your next message. (How to attach)

    Since it appears you have one of the newer ZeroAccess infections, I'd also like you to scan with the below:

    [IMG] Please download OTL by OldTimer.

    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the OTL icon on your desktop. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • Check the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
    • Check the "Standard Output".
    • Change the setting of "Drivers" and "Services" to "All"
    • Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the [IMG] text-field.
      Code:
      netsvcs

    • Now click the [IMG] button.
    • Two reports will be created:

    Hello thisisu! Thank you for you answer and sorry for my delay, but the infected pc is at home and I just come back from work.
    I followed your instruction, but OTL didn't create extras.txt, (just re-read your instruction about OTL, and I did it step by step) so I'm attaching just 3 logs.

    Done and logs attached.
    Just after reboot, Comodo popped up an alert about
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\klvvhk\setup.exe
    trying to modify 2 registry voices:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet???\Services\AMService
    HKUS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\AMService
    and then trying to contact 89.248.165.137.
    I obviously told Comodo to deny the requests.
    Sent the file to virustotal and obtained this report:
    https://www.virustotal.com/file/4ff...0dbcba75bee8bbbc3a0e6cb7/analysis/1329337817/

    In addition to that, the continuous ping to various IP addresses goes on, and MBAM still founds 2 rootkit infections from a file (didn't fix it, as it would have return with a different name, just "locked" it in Comodo)
    The file is C:\windows\system32\downloadmanagerlite.dll,
    and its virustotal report is
    https://www.virustotal.com/file/eea...29de4464ef879a83fb225a40/analysis/1329338192/

    and then trying to connect to 89.248.165.137
    Obviously I told Comodo to deny it, and now the file is trying to connect to other IP addresses.
    I sent the file to virustotal for analysis, and the report is https://www.virustotal.com/file/4ff...0dbcba75bee8bbbc3a0e6cb7/analysis/1329337817/

    The continuous ping to various ip (locked from Comodo) goes on, so I ran MBAM and it found RootKit.0Access.H in the file C:\windows\system32\downloadmanagerlite.dll.
    "Locked" it with Comodo, sent to virustotal, report at https://www.virustotal.com/file/eea...29de4464ef879a83fb225a40/analysis/1329338192/

    I'm still without an antivirus, should I reinstall AVG, a different one, or wait for further instructions?

    Save this file as CFScript.txt to your desktop. So now you should have both CFScript.txt and ComboFix.exe on your desktop.
    Now use your mouse to drag CFScript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe and then release.

    [IMG] Now run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat by double-clicking it.
    This updates all of the logs inside MGlogs.zip.

    Done. Just a problem, in Hijackthis I didn't find
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Download All by Gigaget - C:\Programmi\Giganology\Gigaget\getallurl.htm
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Download by Gigaget - C:\Programmi\Giganology\Gigaget\geturl.htm
    maybe because I unistalled Gigaget before running Hijackthis.

    Sorry forgot to answer this earlier. I'd like you to hold off on installing an antivirus until we are sure the system is malware free.

    You're right. This is why you were not able to see them anymore ;)

    How is the system running now? Any other problems? Your latest logs appear to be clean to me.

    Actually after looking through your logs again, you may still have an issue. I'd like you to run the below CFScript and then tell me how things are working for you.

    Code:
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]KillAll::[/COLOR]
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]Driver::[/COLOR]
    ksthunk
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]FCopy::[/COLOR]
    c:\windows\ERDNT\cache\ipsec.sys | c:\windows\system32\drivers\ipsec.sys
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]File::[/COLOR]
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\downloadmanagerlite.dll
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]FileLook::[/COLOR]
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\serial.sys
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]Folder::[/COLOR]
    c:\windows\$NtUninstallKB21202$
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]NetSvc::[/COLOR]
    ksthunk

    No more "wild" ping. MBAM does not show bad red things. Firefox does not open unwanted pages.
    Looks like I got a clean PC :-D
    Thank you, thisisu. Really, thanks a lot.
    Now... I wait for your command to know if I can install an antivirus, and which one.

    Very good :)

    We fixed a lot of things in that last CFScript but there is still a problem I'd like to address so please scan with the below. Do not worry about the Extras.txt

    [IMG] Rescan with OTL by OldTimer using the below settings:

    • Double click on the OTL icon on your desktop. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • Check the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
    • Check the "Standard Output".
    • Change the setting of "Drivers" and "Services" to "All"
    • Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the [IMG] text-field.
      Code:
      netsvcs
      /md5start
      downloadmanagerlite.dll
      redbook.sys
      ipsec.sys
      serial.sys
      afd.sys
      tcpip.sys
      sfcfiles.dll
      /md5stop
      %windir%\$NtUninstallKB2120*

    • Now click the [IMG] button.
    • Two reports will be created:
      • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
      • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized
    • Attach both OTL.txt and Extras.txt to your next message. (How to attach)

    Nice, this should take care of the minor remaining problem.

    [IMG] Fix items using OTL by OldTimer

    Double-click OTL.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    Shut down your protection software now (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts.
    Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the [IMG] text-field.
    Code:
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]:processes[/COLOR]
    killallprocesses
    [COLOR="DarkRed"]:files[/COLOR]
    C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\sp3.cab:serial.sys /e
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\serial.sys|c:\serial.sys /replace

    Now click the [IMG] button.
    If the fix needed a reboot please do it.
    Click the OK button (upon reboot).
    When OTL is finished, Notepad will open. Close Notepad.
    A log file will be located at C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log, where mmddyyyy_hhmmss is the date of the tool run.
    Attach this log to your next message. (How to attach)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis if it present
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
    Be safe :)

    You're welcome. You had a new ZeroAccess infection. I enjoyed learning how to counter it :)
    You can install an Antivirus now.

    I am using Avast Free. No complaints from me. ;)

    OTL log attached.
    I'll spend the next days trying to understand what we did here (well, what YOU did, I was just an interface :) ) reading the logs and the instructions / scripts / commands.
    As I can see, no more problems here, but Saturday I'll have more time to use my pc, and I'll execute the "final steps" paying more attention for eventual strange behaviour.
    I just don't know how to thank you.
