port scan attack

    :rolleyes: can someone please tell me what a port scan attack is? and how do i take care of it? someone please help!

    Pretty much it's just a sweep of open ports that someone is running, (ie, trying to find one), pretty harmless in general, that's what your firewall is for!


    Just turn off notifications in your firewall therwise you'll go insane, it'll usually let you know if there's a more concerted intrusion attempt.

    If you want more detail on 'stealthing' ports etc a quick google will do the trick:)

    Grrkkshk... grc.... take that with a grain of salt.

    Port scan "attacks" are quite normal. You get them from your ISP, to check you don't have anything running that you shouldn't, and from advertising/research companies gathering statistics.

    Don't let GRC panic you into ANYTHING. As he says himself, a false sense of security is worse than no sense of security!
