    Good day,

At my home I have 3 PCs all connected to the same internet connection via a Linksys router. The PCs are as follows:

    1) a desktop running XP Home SP2
    2) a laptop running XP Pro SP1
    3) a Tablet PC running XP Tablet Edition SP2

The desktop connects to the router via rj45, the laptop and tablet connect wirelessly.

In the past, all 3 computers have been able to share folders via the 'My Network Places' feature of XP, but the desktop was unused for a few months and during that span the Tablet was upgraded to SP2.

Now the desktop and the laptop are sharing folders just fine, but the tablet's 'My Network Places' only shows its own shard folders.

I have run the Network Setup wizard on all 3 machines, using the same network name. All 3 machines use the same subnet mask. (IPs, subnet, etc are defined by the router) All 3 machines have a different name on the network and none of the names are longer than 8 characters. I use only the windows firewall on the Tablet, and Windows reports the firewall is configured to allow sharing.

Can anyone recommend some more steps to try? I've reached the end of my expertise...

    -Ian

Any of these computers using a firewall?

Yes, all use the Windows XP firewall and the tablet uses "Shaw Secure", a antivirus/firewall security package from my ISP. My ISP assures me that the default settings of this program do not affect file and print sharing, and I have made sure the settings are not disabling that.

I have not yet tried shutting all the firewalls down; I do not know how likely a solution that is.

Try shutting all of the firewalls off, reboot and try it.

Unfortunately, I've not met an ISP tech thats worth his/her salt.

They know so little of file and printer sharing that its pathetic.

Post back with results. It may not be the firewalls, but thats the first place to start.

I will try this several hours from now and report. I notice your avatar picture is one of Kris Straub's photoshop experiments. Are you simply a fan, or do you know him?

hate to butt into someone elses thread, but Adrynalyne you are the man !!!!

I have 7 computers in our home network and this is the first time I have been able to see all the shared files on all seven computers. I turned all the firewalls back on after rebooting, I am assuming that I will still be able to access everything.

Thank you Adrynalyne for the tip !!!! [IMG] [IMG]

I stole the thumb from a friend. Do you have a link to his other work? I had no idea where it came from :)

Thanks so much for your advice. Disabling the firewall on the Tablet PC corrected the problem!

Also, your thumb is from Kristopher Straub, who runs a webcomic called Checkerboard Nightmare (checkerboardnightmare.com). The thumb you have is a picture of Kris he photoshopped a few Hallowe'ens ago. You can view more of his non-webcomic art and photoshopping at his blog, Airsick Moth (http://www.nightlightpress.com/airsick)
