i have no clue what kind of virus this is, but im desperate

Okay, I would really appreciate everyones help. I have virus scanners on my computer, etc. I have an HP, running Windows XP, regularly scan my computer for viruses; the works.

I scanned the computer and it found one, and I simply deleted in. I believe it may have been called winfix. The symptoms are this: I turn on the computer, and it shuts off the hard drives, the screen goes entirely blank, and thats it. It gets to the windows loading screen occasionally. I press f9, try to get into safe mode; it shuts down the hard drives. So, what can I do folks?

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

• Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

• Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..

In your next post, please make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order:

• CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
• Bitdefender - from step 6
• Panda Scan - from step 6
• runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
• newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
• HijackThis

NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

 

I cannot get into windows. I thought I said that... The computer shuts off after the windows loading screen comes up.

 

I apologize, I only read to "Winfix" and posted the initial post.

It's F8 to get into Safe Mode, try this and see if you can get into Safe Mode.

Also, when you say goes off, do you mean it actually powers off or does it restart?

 

You can hear the hard drive shut off, and then the screen goes blank. I cleaned the virus once but I guess it wasn't completely gone and came back.
I can't even get into safe mode.

 

I don't think a virus will literally power off your machine, it could restart Windows but not power it off.

I would post this over in Hardware, those guys will help you with this issue and once you can get into Windows you can come back here for further anaylsis.
