you don't need a dx9 card to play bf1942, but yes, its a cool game. make sure you download the latest patch from EA, then go to http://www.desertcombat.com/ and download their latest patch, and for added fun, go to http://www.dcxtended.com/ and download their latest patch. if you have any questions, you know where to find me ;)

Far Cry will rock, but you need more horsepower, that would have been my suggestion.

I will add to the recommendations of Far Cry. Unbelieveable graphics to this game even if your card isn't the beefest out there. If you had a card that could handle the graphics this game could put out, you'd probably be blown away! I'd like to see the game on full graphic settings myself... that'd be a sight.

    edit

Second recommendation... if you are thinking of Battlefield 1942, consider Battlefield Vietnam too! Both are awesome. Have fun! :)

Dan, dan, dan... Get Battlefield in all incarnations EXCEPT Secret Weapons. Get Desert Combat, learn how to fly Helo's like me. Then join my clan. Maybe even COH, so you can play that with the rest of us fools down at Gamescape. Don't bother with Far Cry. Yes, it looks like a million bucks, but with such limited online play support, I would hesitate to pick it up until either A) Things online for it pick up. B) We wait and see what Valve has in store for us *soon* hopefully.

yeah, i just got bf. just the normal version with desert combat. what are the advantages of getting road to rome?

aLLiKZar It's not too late to back out!

Ive got all the expansion packs and seem to play mostly Desert Combat and BFV. Road to Rome and Secret Weapons are fun to play, different maps, weapons, vehicles, etc., but online there are not many people that play it I found out. Dont really play them all too much anymore but every once in awhile I'd play them.
I'd say get the mods for BF1942 rather than the expansion packs. Desert Combat is awesome, DCExtended is awesome, but there are so many more out there.
    Check out this place.

I think you'll really like unreal. DEFINETLY try onslaught games online, very cool and intense. Plus you can add your mp3's right into the game and listen on random.....sweeeeeeeet.

i just got thief 3, its a pretty impressive game from what ive seen so far. great graphics, and the gameplay is awesome if you like stealth-action games like splinter cell, metal gear, etc. Another one of my favorites right now is counter-strike: condition zero. if you're a CS fan at all i highly recommend it.

Dan, it might be a problem playing with either of your systems listed. Graphics would probably have to go WAY down. :(

I've never tried either of those games, but how complicated is Thief 3? I think my girlfriend would like that type of game if not too complicated. Can you go at your own speed?
    Thanks

Thief 3 can actually be made quite simple when turned down to easy. The harder the setting, the more loot you have to collect in each mission and your freedom to kill whoever you want is taken away.. making it much more tedious. On the easiest settings the enemies are pretty much deaf, blind and dumb.. so you can be as reckless as you want without too many consequences. The fact that these settings can be changed at the beginning of each mission is a nice touch, especially when you come across one that seems way too difficult. The missions themselves do get pretty long, which you might not like. Its not really the objectives that take so long, but the sneaking around. Moving silently means moving at a snails pace in this game, so it can take quite some time and a bit of trail and error to get the jump on every gaurd. All in all i think its a great game. The gameplay reminds me a lot of splinter cell, but in a fantasy/medieval setting, which is great. The graphics are really quite good too. The only thing that annoys me is that the enemies walk around sorta like robots sometimes, which looks funky when in the company of such great graphics heh.

I WANT HALF-LIFE 2 NOW!!! I DO NOTHING BUT THINK ABOUT IT! I THINK OF IT WHEN I EAT, SLEEP, PLAY, READ, WATCH TV, JUST SIT THERE, AND EVERY OTHER TIME I'M NOT DEAD!
