Network Connections

this is by far the dummest thing to ask, but hey am lost...
i have a computer in a different location than i am now, on it an accounting package that allows LAN computers to run it and update the database...
yeah, more of a server....

now the prob:

how do i improve both speed and band-width...???

well what kind of internet connection do you have at client end and server end?
