Hello Major Geeks. Thank you for taking a look at my thread.

My mother, while playing puzzle games on various websites, encountered a virus pop-up that is crippling her side of the computer (we have two usernames on this PC). The pop-up I'm referring to appeared to be a Windows anti-virus type deal, but it seemed a little fishy to me.

She said this happened when she changed a security setting so that she could play her game. She insists on using Internet Explorer, no matter how many times I insist she use Firefox. I often hear of IE being faulty in its security, but I'm sure some can debunk that.

Anyway, her side is pretty much crippled. While logged in on her username, we can't open a simple word document or our AVG virus scan. Strangely, my side seems fine. When I ran an AVG virus search, hoping it would kill the problem on her side, I was dismayed to see that it found nothing.

I wasn't sure of what to do to get rid of this issue, so I came here for your help.

Should I log into her username and take some notes on what I see, or will that do more damage? In the meantime I will get a hijackthis log going.
