Trouble connecting

I will do my best to describe my problem. I am having trouble connecting to sites/applications were I must connect seperately. An example is napster, I have XP and have paid for napster but it never connect. It is not a napster thing, as I also have problems connecting to a database on the internet. It just never connects. I had some viruses and since I removed them I have not been able to connect. My internet works fine (cable) its just these sites were I need a password. Another example is when I try to send a message trough a web page, I have been trying to contact napster but through a "Send to Webmaster" email were it is through an internet page. I fill in the message and text lines but when i send it just times out.

Is there a certain file that controls this kind of action, need help please.
Sorry if it is so confusing, its just hard to describe.
