I was surfing the web earilier and AVG came up and told me I had a virus. I chose to heal the things it said was wrong and it said it healed all but two. I decided to reboot and when I did I have no Icons and can not engage my start menu to do a reg restore. I'm using Windows XP SP2. I have to administrative accounts and 4 other user accounts. I can not see icons on any account. What can I do??

I'm sorry but I can't tell you what the virus was that caused it because I didn't write it down. I had to boot into safemode and do a registry restore to recover my Icons. Apparently I had numerous viruses on my system that AVG didn't pick up but eTrust did.

If you restored your registry, there is a good chance you brought some of the viruses back. This is a very good thread, Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal. I might want to do the steps in the thread and see if there is anything still lurking on your system.

Shadow you are exactly right! I after restoring my registry installed eTrust suite of utilities for (viruses, spyware, malware) they cover everything. I found 5 viruses that AVG did not pic up on. At this point I'm gonna uninstall everything else I have installed (spybot, Adaware, AVG,) and just see how things go with the eTrust products.

My recommendation would be to keep the other malware programs since they will not interfere with eTrust. ;)

Since new worms, viruses, and other malware come out constantly, some programs (obviously) have updates to address them before others. The "overlapping" of malware fighting programs will prevent most malware, if not all, from infecting your computer. :)

Well, something to think about. :D
