    Hi,

    I am desperate for some help... I formatted my son's OLD computer, and when I say Old, I mean very old.

    I am by no means a computer expert, but I got everything working, except the audio drivers. I remember this happened to me the last time I did this, but it was about 2 years ago and for the life of me I can't remember.

    The details are:
    Operating System new – server roles System Model
    Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)

    Slot '1' has 256 MB
    Slot '2' is Empty
    Slot '3' is Empty
    Local Drive Volumes new – volume encryption

    c: (NTFS on drive 0) 42.13 GB 36.22 GB free

    Controllers Display
    Standard floppy disk controller
    Primary IDE Channel [Controller]
    Secondary IDE Channel [Controller]
    VIA Bus Master IDE Controller S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (Microsoft Corporation) [Display adapter]

    Bus Adapters Multimedia
    Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
    VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller (3x) None discovered

    This the the information I got from Belarc.

    Perhaps I am just looking in the wrong place, or perhaps I am not understanding what I read...
    Please help!
    The reason I had to reformat the whole thing is that I tried to install Net Nanny and then it all went wrong from there!

    If the audio adapter is integrated on to the motherboard, you need to get it's driver from the motherboard manufacturer's website. You will need to know the model-number of the motherboard. That information is not shown in your Belarc system info so you'll have to open up the PC and look on the motherboard for the make & model. I've often had to do that for people who've brought me their custom-built PC to sort out which needs some or all of the drivers re-installing.

    If, however, the audio adapter is not integrated (ie it's a separate audio card in a PCI slot) you need to get it's driver from the card manufacturer's website.

    Here is a link to Everest Home Edition (CLEAN FreeWare)

    Alternate link;
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

    Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. Once it's finished loading and running, click the + sign next to;

    Motherboard. Click on Chipset. Post the information listed (on the right) after South Bridge exactly as it is listed. (example; South Bridge: Intel 82801GB ICH7)

    Multimedia. Post the information listed (on the right) under PCI / PnP Audio exactly as it is listed.

    Hi,

    There is actually only one device with a Question Mark -

    Other devices has a Yellow Question Mark and as 'part' of Other devices is the Multimedia Audio Controller - this has a question Mark and I see now on closer inspection that it has a yellow exclamation mark too. I hope what I just said makes some sense, I dont know how else to really put it.

    Apologies for not attaching the Everest report as a txt file.. so here goes.. my first attempt ...

    I'll try the driver and let you know..

    Thank you very much for your help!
