Okay so here is my story. A friend of mine is buying a new computer at BestBuy and I go there to meet up with him and he buys the computer and a service plan , spysweeper software, and some antivirus software that best buy offers. So he takes it home and I had planned on coming over to install the security stuff he bought but I couldnt make it over that night. He ended up finding someone local with an open internet connection and got online and looked up a bunch of porn. He calls me to tell me the computer has some problems. The next day he brings it to work and I cant even boot the computer up into windows. So I ran a few selftests in the bios utility on the hard drives and it passed. Later that day we tried to go into safe mode and attempt to add/remove some of the familiar stuff. I found spysheriff on there and removed that. And attempted to run spysweeper but it had corrupted files and could not perform a scan. At this point in time I attempted to return the computer to best buy and they refused because they saw the spyware and said they will not repair it or cover it under their protection plan. I then took the computer home and am unable to get into safe mode anymore , it gets stuck on mup.sys and the same goes for attempting to get into command prompt. But I am now able to get into windows but on startup I get slammed with error messages and popups, as well as the computer running very slow. I attempt to re-install spy sweeper and scan but before the scan can finish it says spysweeper has corrupted files and needs to be re-installed. I burn ad-aware peronsal to a disc and install it and run that scan and before it can finish it says adaware has corrupted files and needs to be re-installed. Okay so I am going to attempt a system recovery, upon trying to do the system recovery I get an error saying it cannot see the hard drisk(error 4). I also tried repairing and installing xp Pro from a disc and I get the same errror it cannot see the hard drive. So what do I do guys? I got a computer loaded with trojans and all kinds of spyware and no way to rid of it? There has to be something I can do here. Tell me what you think. Hope my story helps.

By the way I am Dan and I use the site sometimes, but this is my first time on the forums here.

Personally, since it's a new computer I would simply format and reinstall. If you have your personal files on the computer then we can manually remove these infections with some time and work.

    Let me know!

Well I would love to do that but as I explained above I cant format. I cant get into command prompt, I cant get into safe mode, and I cant recover/repair windows with a windows cd.

If you want to format you must boot from the CD-ROM by setting your CD Drive as first boot in the BIOS.

    Have you done this?

Sure have and it does boot from the CDrom. The problem is when I boot from the cdrom and get ready to reinstall windows it gets an error saying it cant read the hard disk.

Have you checked the HDD? If everything is connected properly then I would default the BIOS settings. If this does not work then I would bet the HDD is failing. If that's the case, go to the Hardware Forum to confirm that and keep me updated.
