    Hi all I have not been here in a very long time but when I did you were amazingly helpful Thankfully I have a new computer since then I screenshot the details and attached it. I have been getting an error message lately that does not seem to affect anything in particular it will pop up randomly even if I am not on the computer I clicked more info and took a screen shot of what I saw (also attached) I am not sure where to start I have tried to download Malawarebits but is says that my trial has expired. I have also run CC cleaner
    and my virus program microsoft security essentials. Do you think you can help
    Thanks in advance

    Hi. :)

    Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

    Please follow the instructions in the below link:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Good evening. :)

    Please re run Hitman pro and have it remove all that it finds.

    [IMG] Fix items using RogueKiller.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7/8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

    • [PUP] (X64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SMUpdd (\??\C:\Program Files\Common Files\Goobzo\GBUpdate\smw.sys) -> Found
    • [PUP] (X64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\SMUpdd (\??\C:\Program Files\Common Files\Goobzo\GBUpdate\smw.sys) -> Found
    • [PUP] (X64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet002\Services\SMUpdd (\??\C:\Program Files\Common Files\Goobzo\GBUpdate\smw.sys) -> Found
    • [PUM.Proxy] (X64) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings | ProxyEnable : 1 -> Found
    • [PUM.Proxy] (X86) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings | ProxyEnable : 1 -> Found
    • [PUM.Proxy] (X64) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings | ProxyEnable : 1 -> Found
    • [PUM.Proxy] (X86) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings | ProxyEnable : 1 -> Found
    Place a checkmark next to each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

    Download and run OTM.

    Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    • Right-click OTM.exe And select " Run as administrator " to run it.
    • Paste the following code under the [IMG] area. Do not include the word Code.
    Code:
    :Files
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Goobzo
    C:\ProgramData\E1864A66-75E3-486a-BD95-D1B7D99A84A7
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Common dictionary
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\DealAlly
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Diagnostics
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Display settings
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Hoist Search
    C:\Windows\tasks\PCHelpers1st.job
    C:\Windows\tasks\PCHelpers_period.job
    C:\Windows\tasks\PerfMonitor_strtp.job
    C:\Windows\tasks\SparkTrust Update Version3_triggeronce.job
    :reg
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{2B16BC8A-45BF-47D3-A58E-1329997A6F25}]
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large [IMG] button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into a text file to ATTACH into your next reply.

    NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

    [IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
    • Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
    • Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

    • Now re run RogueKiller (just a scan) and attach log.
    • Same for Hitman Pro.
    • Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.
    • Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running!

    Hi there
    First thank you for taking the time to help me. I have attached 5 of the 6 files I will attach MG log in next message. I had no problems with any of the programs requested. The error is random it was there this morning when I got up but have not seen it all day. The only difference I have noticed is that since I started my computer does not go to sleep it is on all the time.

    Not sure whether OTM took care of it or not, are you still having the error?
    If you navigate to that file, does it exist?

    no I have looked for that file and have never been able to find it I have not had the pop up since the other night I think you may have taken it out with some of the scans. Is there anything else I need to do there were a lot of pup files when I did the scans::innocent

    What is detecting PUP's? Which scan?

  23. jcdgl

    jcdgl Private First Class

    no problems since the other night so I think you got it. I have done a search for the file and I have checked running processes and have never been able to find it. Is there anything else that needs to be done I remember seeing a lot of pup files when we did the scans.
    I thought I posted thise response earlier but I don't see it now sorry if it appears twice

  24. Kestrel13!

    Kestrel13! Super Malware Fighter - Major Dilemma Staff Member

    RogueKiller listed one PUP which isn't actually anything to worry about.
    Hitman listed several, which I had you remove a long time ago. Do you still have Hitman? Can you rescan with it and see if it turns anything up?

    Otherwise, I'm not sure what you're referring to. :)

    OK, glad you attached log. Hitman still shows garbage. Re run it and have it fix what it finds. Then re run again (scan only) and attach that log too please. :)

    ran Hitman and deleted all files that showed up. second scan showed no threats and everything seems to be running very well. No error messages are popping up at all anymore. I attached the log just in case there was anything you needed to see. Thank you so much for all of your help I recommend you guys to who every asks, even our tech at work ( who by the way had no idea of what I was even trying to explain). Please let me know if I need to do anything else

    Glad all is running nicely. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Download OTC
    Close all programs.
    Start OTC program.
    Click the CleanUp! button.
    Select Yes when asked "Begin cleanup process".
    If you are asked to reboot, select Yes.
    If any logs remain on the computer you can remove them.

    You can also remove any files/folders that JRT and Adwcleaner generated.
