Change rings for modem to pick up

I currently have a RAS server hooked up to my network, where my dad can dial to my house and connect to my home LAN. Do you know how I can change how many rings it takes for the modem to pick up? Currently, it's picking up on the 1st ring. This RAS is on a single phone line system with my DSL and house phones. With the RAS enabled, I can't receive any calls without the modem picking up in the background.

been a long time since I Messed with dialup.. check the modem properties to see if there is a setting for that.. can't remember.. but since no one else replied.

I tried that. Appears to be no such setting. I looked in the Routing and Remote Access window in Windows, and also found no settings.

This worked and changed the number of rings. Here's my setup problem now: Single phone line system with a RAS, answering machine, and household phones all on the same line. No matter what I set the number of rings at on the RAS, either the RAS or the answering machine will pick up before the other. Now, is there a way that I can have something detect whether there is a phone or a modem on the other end of the line and direct the call to either the RAS or the house phones?
P.S. - I tried an Emerson Switchbox, similar to a Catch-a-call, which has the following connections on the back of it: Wall Jack, Modem, Phone, and Fax.
I tried all sorts of configurations with it and had no luck.
Hopefully I didn't confuse anyone.
