Address bar in IE6

I have always used the address bar for my first search engine, but now it doesn't seem to work anymore, anything I put in it goes to a can't find site. Won't even go to MSN search engine.

This sounds like yet another case of Hosts file hijacking.

Whoops! Just discovered that you have another thread started on this called Hijack Startups. Better do a regular HJT scan that shows your HOSTS.

Found the problem myself, (pat on back) ha ha it was in Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/ Search from Address Bar. Thanks though appreciate the quick response.

 

Just out of curiosity: I have NEVER seen that control set so that searches wouldn't go through at all. Was it set to Do not search when you found it, and do you have any idea how it got that way?

(Other readers: It says Display results and Go/ Do not search/ Just display results/ Just Go. The only setting that might cause real trouble is "Do not search", and I can't even GUESS how that would get ticked.)

It was working fine, but stopped, so I don't know how it got that way. Wish I did.
