Errors on friend's computer

Hello:

I have been working on a friend's computer trying to get it working better.
He is running Win 98 but I would have to repost the specs. It is an old computer and he is on a tight budget. So I have been dealing with his influx of viruses and spyware. Here is what I have done so far and questions below:

1. In safe mode, (with Adaware's help) deleted 2100 spyware (yikes!)
2. Eliminated 10 viruses (with AVG help)
3. Removed four different type of toolbars
4. Updated his IE
5. Installed AVG and have yet to remove fully Norton 2002 NAV
6. Remove NERO Express (was not opening properly)


Questions:

1. I am unable to do a windows update - the system hangs at windows update screen.
2. Two viruses still remain:

a) c:/windows/application data/docs.exe (Trojan P)
b) c:/windows/system/urrzgeug.exe

3. Two errors appear after Win 98 -
system.ini and symtdi.vxd

4. Need the Norton 2002 uninstall tool

5. What is mslangent

My future plans for this system include:

Install Spyware blaster, Crapcleaner, Spyware Guard, Spybot, install Burn 4free.

Any feedback on how to remove those viruses or answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet might be to start in the Spyware Forum in the link below. That will make sure the system is clean before starting to fix any more issues, that could be caused by malware.

That should also take care of the symtdi.vxd error.

And mslangent.exe is also known as MagicControl.

MagicControl is a commercial trojan from dialler manufacturer Electronic Group (eGroup). It seems to contain code aimed at avoiding personal firewall software installed on the local machine.

How to Remove MagicControl?

Click Start > Setting > Control Pane > Add/Remove Programs, choose 'mc' (MC variant), 'wintrim' (Wintrim variant) or 'wincomp' (Wincomp variant). This uninstaller should work, though it requires internet access.
