    Hi.
    Here's my problem (windows-xp sp2).
Yesterday, after inserting my flash pendrive seemingly 2 infected files were created in it (autorun.inf and recycler15-5...).
autorun.inf result infected by Worm.Generic_c.ZS (according to AVG) or by Win32.Worm.autorun.VHG (according to BitDefender)
recycler15-5... result infected by Worm.downadup (according by both AVG and BitDefender)
From that moment on, if i try to delete the files after the antiviruses' scans (tried both) and then running the pendrive scan again everything is clean until the pendrive is disconnected and re-inserted (the 2 infected files are recreated at insertion).
I even tried to format the pendrive but after every re-insertion the infetced files reappear.
I also noticed (but i don't know if this is related) that i'm unable to open any antivirus websites.
So i suppose there's something wrong on my pc. :)
I did everything you suggest in the "READ AND RUN ME FIRST" section.
    1) downloaded and ran ccleaner
    2) checked in the control panel/add-remove programs something to maybe uninstall (confronting with your programs' list)
    3) Downloaded the 5 tools suggested
    4) Ran the 5 tools suggested (the only thing i was unable to do was updating the MalwareBytes Malware databases neither in auto nor in manual mode because the website is seemingly among those one blocked)

Hope the infos i provided are enough to give you an idea about what the problem is.

4 of the 5 logs files enclosed here, the fifth in the subsequent quick reply.

    Thanks for any help

    Franco

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You have a Conficker infection. That is what happens when you don't install required updates for your software. Conficker has been well know/documented since early January (9 months ago) and has existed since October of 2008. You have to keep your PC updated.

You have completely ignored step 2 in the READ & RUN ME. You have both AVG 8.5 and BitDefender Free Edition v10 installed. You must immediately uninstall one of these before doing anything else. You must NEVER install multiple antivirus programs.

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

Do you know what the below files are? If not then delete them. If you do, and you need them, I suggest that you immediately move them somewhere else like this saved to the root folder will be deleted automatically by many scanners as they are assumed to be unsafe if safed in the root folder.
    Code:
    C:\SSPrint.exe
    2009-09-07 05:25 . 2009-09-07 05:25 2981243 ----a-w- C:\prgftp.zip
    2009-09-07 05:25 . 2009-09-07 05:25 5055899 ----a-w- C:\prgBOTH.zip
    2009-07-31 07:44 . 2009-07-31 08:25 32220667 ----a-w- C:\10149ogn.ZIP
    2009-07-23 06:29 . 2008-12-08 11:17 485 ----a-w- C:\DINO.BAT
    2009-07-09 16:32 . 2008-12-09 09:17 716800 ------w- c:\windows\ngsetup.exe
    2009-07-08 07:47 . 2009-07-08 07:47 1654131 ----a-w- C:\notagen.zip
    2008-12-15 07:41 . 2008-12-15 07:41 2507424 ----a-w- c:\programmi\cdbfw.zip

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 14
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 16
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_13
    Java(TM) 6 Update 13
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: ºÜ¿ìÊÓƵËÑË÷ - {998A88A0-A355-809B-831C-B83A80000991} - http://www.henkuai.com/?from=iebannel (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: ºÜ¿ìÊÓƵËÑË÷ - {998A88A0-A355-809B-831C-B83A80000991} - http://www.henkuai.com/?from=iebannel (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment
Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

First of all, many thanks for your answer.
The procedure you suggested worked perfectly and now it looks like i'm clean! :)

    > You have completely ignored step 2 in the READ & RUN ME.
    > You have both *AVG 8.5* and* BitDefender Free Edition v10 i*nstalled.
    > You must immediately uninstall one of these before doing anything else.
    > You must NEVER install multiple antivirus programs

I'm aware of the conflict possibilities while running two antiviruses, but i have both installed for scanning purposes. In fact i keep just one (bitdefender) running tsr for shielding purposes. AVG is installed and kept in passive mode. Is this also not recommended? If so, i'll uninstall AVG immediately.

Anyway, i did everything you suggested:
    1) Cleaned desktop as much as possible
    2) Cleaned "c:\" as much as possible
    3) Removed Windows Messenger
    4) Uninstalled old Java packages
    5) ran c:\mgtools\analyse.exe and fixed the 3 lines you indicated
    6) Created CFscript.txt and pasted in the text you quoted
    7) Ran Combofix by dragging the script over (pc then rebooted, obviously)
    8) Installed updated java r.e.
    9) Ran ccleaner
    10) Updated MgTools
    11) Ran MgTools
    12) Wrote this post with needed attachments :)

    Everything seems to be ok.
    Thanks thanks thanks

As stated in my last message, you must never install more than one. It does not matter how you configured it. It is still entering hundreds of registry keys and is trying to control your security center. And in addition the services and BHO's for AVG are still loading. Look at your process list and see all the AVG processes running. Not only are you reducing the effectiveness of BitDefender, you are slowing your PC down.

Since you did not uninstall AVG as requested and you did not shutdown BitDefender and Sygate as requested before running ComboFix, the last fix did not work properly. You will have to perform it again.

    Thank you for your answer.
I eventually followed your instructions by:
    1) Uninstalling Bit Defender
    2) Deactivating temporarily AVG
    3) Deactivating temporarily Sygate firewall
    4) Updating and re-running Combofix
    5) Updating and re-running MGTools

Here enclosed the newly generated attachments

    Thanks

You still have not uninstalled the below:

    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 16

And you did not install the current version as requested.

Did you notice the warning from ComboFix:

    - MODALITÀ CON FUNZIONALITÀ RIDOTTE -

In English, this means it ran in reduced functionality mode because it was outdated. You needed to delete the old copy you had from Sept 7th and download and use the current version. The fix still did not work because of this. Please delete ALL copies of ComboFix.exe that you currently have. Then download the below one to your Desktop:

    combofix.exe

Then rerun the same fix again from the part with ComboFix thru to the end.
