Group Think is making you miss 2 very important tools

Hey fellow geeks-

After removing spyware from hundreds of pcs (it's been my living for the past 1.5yrs), I can offer some expert advice here. You're missing out on two very important spyware removal tools.

The first is SpySweeper. If you're just cleaning a pc, download the trial version and update it, then scan in safemode along with SpyBot, Ad-Aware, etc. You'll be amazed by all of the files that SpySweeper finds that the two above miss.

Secondly, the new spyware program from Microsoft is great. The only downside is that you can't install it in safe mode due to the Windows Installer service being unavailable in Safe Mode. It finds even more than SpySweeper, and seems to be a pretty solid (beta) program.

Finally, you should (assuming you're geeky enough) manually look at your System32 directory and sort by date, newest at the top. Look for any wierd files that are leftover -- many times you will see things with obvious names like "free credit card.ico" or "porninst.exe" around the top and then you should obviously remove them. BE VERY CAREFUL and always cut them to a temp folder if you are unsure as it could be an oddly names SP2 file or some such needed file.

 

I tend to disagree.

Only on the surface.

The program is crap in its current form, it causes many problems for the OS after removing spyware.

After the calls I've seen lately, I wouldn't reccomend anyone try this tool until it gets the kinks worked out.
