i am using firefox and while i use it the page often randomly changes to some page like e.rn11.com or searc-h.com - i had recently installed 2 USB 2.0 hard drives and suddenly i was attacked with an onslaught of these spyware or viruses. i installed panda platinum protection and followed all of the steps and removed all the spyware that was on my computer. im still getting random instances of firefox opening when im not browsing as well as current viewed pages changing. My HIJACK log is attached to this message... someone please help.

You still have part of your Symantec AV installed your should either look in Add/Remove programs for software by them and uninstall it. Or try using the below:

Removing your Norton program using SymNRT

You could see any of the below in Add/Remove Programs:
    Norton Firewall
    Symantec LiveReg
    Symantec LiveUpdate

Your OS and IE versions are way out of date! You must get updated after we fix your current problems. You have several problems but first let's start with the Virtumundo problem. You need to run thru the steps in the below procedure:

Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Fix w/ Tool

The lines from your log that you will need to know to run the Vundfix are:

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\pmnlj.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmnlj - C:\WINDOWS\System32\pmnlj.dll

After doing that, post a new HJT log so we can continue.

That's your decision to make. But a reinstall is more time consuming then you think. And you do have to have the ability to back and then reinstall later all of your own personal data and programs ....etc. Also you must reinstall and re-tweak not only Windows, you need to do the same for all applications. And then you need to download and install all your updates and patches. Again this is up to you.

It does not look like you follow the steps properly, or it could be do to the multiple layers of infections that you have but the fix did not work. You still have a Virtumundo infection and I also see a nasty Look2Me infection. It could also be that Ad-Watch and or something to do with your Panda protection is getting in the way of making the fixes. This happens sometimes when malware does get onto your PC, they manual changes we try to make to fix them are viewed by blockers (your protection programs) as malware at play and they prevent our fixes from working properly. In effect, they protect the malware.

Let me know how you would like to proceed. Fix or reinstall???

chaslang i appreciate ur time and trying to help me. i decided to go with a reinstall. all my personal data is stored on separate drives so that isnt an issue - took bout 3 hours to reinstall and get back to where i was. after reinstall was complete, i immediately installed Panda, spybot, and adaware with all updates. as well as XP service pack 1 and all necessary security updates. i do not install service pack 2 b/c i do a lot of maya and zbrush 3d/graphic design and service pack 2 is known to cause problems.
