usb ports not working

Hey i have the same problem almost. My usb ports are damaged(both)...not the pins but the bottom on the port seems to be umm stretched outta place i'll say.? well, when i plug my adapter, camera cord etc.. into it, the laptop shutdown. However, I have my adapter plugged in but, its plugged directly into the pins. I have a dvd case under the adapter to keep it from moving & stable in the pins. I know it sounds weird but thats the only way I can get it to stay. Without something under it, it won't hold sturdy like a normal USB port will...I'm using this laptop rite now with my internet adapter plugged. Since my ports are "overstretched" is there a way to fix that.? device manager says my ports are working properly and they are working because im online now.!! I hope you can picture what i mean..do you have any idea whats wrong? Remember, if i plug it in the wrong way, it still shuts down.!! Hope u can help
