How is it sad?

Sports fans drool over cheer leaders, bikers drool over hot women on bikes, gun lover over hot women with guns, and so on. It's perfectly normal to find an attractive member of the opposite sex more attractive if they come across as having the same interests and hobbies as we do. Basically, geeks understand other geeks, ad laugh at the same jokes, which makes techie girls seem more appealing to geek guys than a cheer leader would.

I don't think that's sad, so much as just basic human nature.

 

Now the thread got weird:-D

Funnily enough I was tryna get some dye for a project while back so checked the yellow pages for craft and hobby shops. I phoned this place up and a guy answered the phone with some weird name and I asked if he sold dye and he said no just skin dye, it was only a few weeks later I passed the store and confirmed it was a cosplay shop.

I'm still amazed they do enough business to stay open, didn't think the world was that weird:confused And yes if I don't do it, its weird.:-D

I'm with Mimsy, if all the people that went to Angelina Jolie or Daniel Craig's movies actually knew them, they would have a very small fan base. I don't think the movie studio bosses would be happy.:-D

Back in the day mechanics used to have pin ups on the workshop wall. Ok, so now we have the internet. It's the same thing in a different form.

 

I have never claimed to be a conventional sort of person.

Yes, and no. We need to respect people because they are people. Gender and lifestyle are irrelevant compared to that standard. (I've never understood why I as a woman should deserve more respect than a man. Just because he was unlucky enough to be born into the male gender doesn't mean he doesn't deserve equal respect and consideration.)

And from another form of female perspective, the girls posted in the thread so far are models. It's their job to have their pictures taken and the pictures admired, and if they have the ability and desire to make a living this way, that is their right as people, just as its our right to work with what we have talent and inclination to do. Whether we agree with their career choice or not, it could potentially be argued that hiding these pictures and expressing disapproval of them is to imply that by becoming models they have done something wrong. To share the pictures and openly admiring them on the other hand, is a way to show respect for their career choice, and indirectly also respect for them as people.

Not entirely playing devil's advocate here. I find these kinds of discussions fascinating.

Now if someone was to post a picture of their hot neighbor, without that woman's knowledge and permission, now THAT is something I would have very strong objections to.
