Unlimited data usage. Virgin fibre optic broadband.

I thought I'd treat myself over Christmas see what 100meg broadband is like, I can call them in January and they can either knock it down to 50meg for £5 less or up to 150meg max for £5 more per month.

What does one do with that kinda bandwidth and unlimited data, seriously! I'm stuck with 3-4Mbps.

    Cheers..

roflmao Don't ask him that. We are, after all, a PG-13 forum.

£33.50 a month for mine, same price everywhere just depends what network has rolled out in your area I imagine.

I could have 18meg for £20, ADSL, then once you get into fibre optic for an extra £8 a month it jumps up to 50 meg, then for another 5.50 a month double again.

Just downloaded a driver from Nvidia at 11MB a second.

Now I don't feel so bad.

The modem is capable of 21.6 Mbps download. I have only once see it go above 8 Mbps. Then again, I pay less than $10 for 4 GB & the modem was included. And Cape Town is 500 miles from where I live.

What you pay is an excellent deal Rikky. There are just a few IPs here and there is little competition in prices. I've got no fibre optic, just a regular Express. Look what Rogers offers in fibre optics: http://www.rogers.com/web/link/hispeedBrowseFlowDefaultPlans and they charge HST (15%?) taxes to their prices.

I got 111ms ping , .62 upload and .42 download. Cisco dongle and wimax hockey puck hotspot. Shows me as in orlando and server in jacksonville. I'm nowhere near either place. This is why I don't try to get the 8.1.1 update.

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

Yeah get rid of that dongle and hotspot.:-D

I have the fibre router connected straight to my computer with a 1m lan cable and I live near a town centre, the main phone exchange is on my street :-D

Shame I don't game online anymore 10ms ping is nice, I only ever got pings of 50ms on adsl, at my parents place who live in more a countryside but have fibre broadband get 17ms ping.

Not getting rid of it. Other options on this property is dsl or comcast. For their price I can do without. I've had both before and they were good. Comcast better and faster. I could eat up 90 gig in my offtime easy. That's how I got my music, video and pdf and program collection that I have now so I'm Okay.

yeah, time warner somehow decided that bastrop gets more speed than most of austin lol

    mustve been an easier upgrade.

now if your in austin proper, you could be getting 1G speeds with a good enough pc and if you live in a fiber neighborhood with ATT gigapower.

ps. belive me we pay for those speeds but hell the wife works at HP and is paying that bill so i aint complainin any time soon.

I only pay Comcast for their regular broadband. Could be worse, definitely could be better.

Not me as BT Fibre is not here yet, University net I have access too would kill most recorded posts here as its GB/s speeds most days, the NHS net I normally use in the N3 network is good on FSTP but general net its slowish.

Yeah, you would think AT&T could so better and this is not their lowest level DSL. There are disadvantages to living in the middle of nowhere.:(

You'd hate it in West Australia then, Rikky. I have to pay $100+/month for not that fast, 'high speed' DSL!...+500GB.:(
For obvious reasons of shame, I'm not posting a screen-shot.....:p

The town phone exchange is a few hundred yards from my front door:-D

But one of the main traffic routes into the town is my street so it's a double edge sword.

I pay $35/month for 10 meg download and 1 meg upload, so I guess that getting more than what I'm paying for is a good thing, even if it's kind of a crappy deal...

Here's my university's WiFi...there's about 400 people using it right now in the room I'm in so it's pretty pitiful. I'll post an update once the line is more "clear", so to speak.

That kinda bandwidth is a blessing when you consider:
    WoW, average install is 25GB.
Windows gets beyond repair or we upgrade sometimes we just want a fresh start and download the OS, drivers and apps
People come over and want to join us in WoW
When I change games and my friends are waiting for me to join them
    When we watch UHD movies
When my mom sends me her latest vacation movies
HUGE bandwidth improves quality of life.

When 4K & 5K streaming finally comes to PCs from Netflix, your whole house will be ready to do it at the same time :-D

  34. blatherbeard

I will also add that with that kind of bandwidth Steam uses it fully and 5gb downloads take minutes.

and now youtube high def never...eeeeeevvver stutters or loads, neither does my wifi netflix connection.

and when used all at the same time.

I was talking to the campus IT guys last night after the event I was at was over (there was a "study-a-thon" with well over 500 people there at one point) and they said the system actually ran out of IP addresses at the peak of the event, causing incredible system slowdown and dropped connections for some.

Full IPv6 support on my campus can't come soon enough rolleyes

I am toying with 4K streaming now. So at least for us it is here from Netflix and Amazon. AT&T needs to up its game to survive evening movies at 4K. A few houses down a friend has 45Mbps from Tekify that is MUCH faster than my ATT connection that is rated higher.

Just checked mine again and today it shows me as being in Tennesse, Last time was in Jacksonville and Orlando. Rate went down but still I'm nowhere near any of these places. Don't think it's a real world test for wireless connections.

  41. Adrynalyne

Of course it isn't. A single path route in transferring a file will never be real world results. Weird you jump around though.

  42. Imandy Mann

Jumping around for sure. I read google news but don't sign in. So it shows local news from whatever tower I'm bouncing off of. Some times it's Orlando. Other times it North Carolina. Sometimes Lake Round or somewhere else in Fla. Georgia. Tenn. Once was Virginia. Get to read some local news that doesn't matter for nothing. Glad I like variety!:wave

My parents internet while I'm home for the holidays...I need to upgrade them with an AC or even N WiFi router, they're still on a G WiFi router and it's very noticeably slower than an Ethernet connection (I also need to upgrade my laptop with an AC chip...)

Down isn't bad, but I would die a little inside with that upload.

Is that what it is rated at?

Hmm, that percentage faster must go by provider, and not overall. Mine is rated higher than yours.
