:cryMy husband seems to have downloaded the smart hdd virus. I have a black screen with no desktop, cannot access internet, so I cannot download TDSS or anything else for that matter. tried downloading it to disk, but infected computer won't read disk. I need to get this thing up and running for my daughter to use later today. thanks :cry

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

What to you mean by "disk"? Since you obviously are using another computer to connect here, download and save the files on this computer. Then copy them to a USB flashdrive ( aka. thumbdrive ) and use this in the infected PC. However you need to be able to open up Windows Explorer or Task Manager so that you can access this flashdrive. Does the PC at least boot up into Windows?

Have you also tested how things work in safe boot mode?

You need to also tell us what version of Windows you are running on this infected PC.

hey, thanks for the reply. I fixed it myself using a separate hard drive to download TDSS, unhide.exe, and RogueKiller. It is a Windows 7 system. I am 48 years old, so it takes me a while to figure this stuff out! ;)
