Unable to download Windows updates

    Hi,

    I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 and have been unable to download Windows updates for several days now. When I try to update Windows, I get error message 80070490: Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

    I have run virus and malware scans using AVG Free and Ad-Aware, and then worked through the READ ME instructions in the malware forums. This has located some trojans, which I have removed (using AVG and Ad-Aware).

    I am still unable to update Windows.

    Log files for Combofix, Root Repeal, MGtools, and Mbam are attached.

    Please help. Thank you.

    Your logs appear to be clean. However, it is possible that one of your system files has become corrupt. I would suggest that you first do this:

    This seems to be a semi-common error and a search for that error code will give you more info and possible solutions ( one of which seemed to be doing an upgrade (not reinstall) of Windows using the original Windows Vista disk.

    Now, you have Combofix running from the wrong location:
    c:\users\Daniel Jenkins\Downloads\ComboFix.exe

    It needs to be directly on your desktop....not running from downloads folder. It will not be removed via our final cleanup procedures if left where it is.

    Just to be sure, please correct this and run it again. Attach the new Combo log ( C:\Combofix.txt)
