I see that this is a somewhat common problem on the forums here. I ran the programs in the Windows 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning procedures and still have my Firefox address bar hijacked by searchqu. Before finding your forums I tried on my own with CCleaner and Spybot Search and Destroy. I know enough to be dangerous on a pc and that is about it. I can follow directions though and would appreciate any help. I have enclosed the logs from the Windows 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning procedures.

Hi and welcome to Major Geeks, Marine0341!

[IMG] From Programs and Features (via Control Panel), please uninstall the below:
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 26 <-- outdated

[IMG] Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double-clicking it (Vista and Win7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
Shut down your protection software now to avoid possible conflicts.
Note: This is actually Trend Micro HiJackThis - v2.0.4
Choose Do a system scan only and select the following lines but do not click fix until you exit all explorer windows and all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
After clicking Fix, exit out of Trend Micro HiJackThis - v2.0.4
Note: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

[IMG] Now we need to make use of ComboFix by sUBs

    • Save the above as CFScript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you must exit all browsers now before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFScript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe.
    • This shall launch ComboFix.
Note: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
    • Allow ComboFix to update itself if prompted.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced at C:\ComboFix.txt
Note: If after running ComboFix you discover none of your programs will open up because you receive the following error: Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion then you will need to reboot your computer which will normally fix this problem.

[IMG] Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    • This will automatically update all the logs inside MGlogs.zip
    • Make sure you click Accept on the License Agreement from Trend Micro HiJackThis - v2.0.4 twice if prompted.

Before you responded i had uninstalled and updated Java, but i did so again as requested. I have enclosed the new Combofix log and the MGlogs.zip. One of the logs in the zip did not update its modified date.

This seems to have fixed the problem I was noticing of my address bar being hijacked. although in internet explorer manage add-on I still see a "Bandoo Media, Inc" loader class add-on. I have disabled it but don't see a way to delete it. In a lot of the forums i see that this searchqu issue is related to Bandoo is there anything i should still be looking out for or anything I should still do.

After my initial post i did some more digging around and in my MSconfig under startup this bandoo was there but I don't see it anymore just in the IE Add-on.

sorry if this information would have been helpful earlier but after reading the DO NOT BUMP post I decided to wait. Thank you for all of your help so far.

    Your latest logs are clean.

About deleting that addon, read this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/...orer-add-ons-frequently-asked-questions#ESCAC
Scroll down to To delete ActiveX controls you have installed in Internet Explorer 8

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis if it present
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
