    I am sure MA, CP, Kodo or someone will use some infinite wisdom to place this thread in the correct forum for me :D I am just to lazy to work it out for myself. :p

    My 1Mbit Broadband connection is reporting 498k up/102k down as opposed to what it should be 1024k up/256k down.

    Hoping one of you Geeks can suggest a way to improve this, or identify a problem I have on my PC.

    The following report is produced by a report program.

    Section 3: Download Speed Results
    Three downloads are tested; one from one of your ISPs servers, one through your Transparent Cache and one through an alterntive cache. This will give you an idea of how capable your connection is. Note: You should take the highest download speed into account.

    Telewest blueyonder - 1Mb Service Server Download:
    60KB/s (480Kb/s) - Poor - this is too low

    Download through Transparent Cache:
    56KB/s (448Kb/s) - Poor - this is too low

    Download through alternative Cache (webcache.blueyonder.co.uk):
    50KB/s (400Kb/s) - Poor - this is too low

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Section 4: Packet Loss
    50 Ping Requests are sent to your server. The packet loss is measured by how many of the packets don't bounce back to the client. High packet loss may slow down your connection.
    50 packets were sent, 50 bounced back; 0% loss (estimated)
    Fantastic - no packets dropped!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Section 5: Transparent Cache Page Fetch Time
    This test times how long your Transparent Cache takes to fetch a page from the Internet. Please note that this test is subject to many different parameters and sometimes may not be 100% accurate. This test can be used to show delays when trying to view Internet sites. The timing takes place from the moment the request for the file is sent to the moment the proxy server responds.

    Average time taken to retrieve a page: 195ms - Slightly poorer than expected

    Broadband Speed Test - www.vantage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

    I have removed some information that could be sensitive. If I removed something that is important, post and I shall add it later.

    FYI. I have the following specs.

    XP1900+ on NForce2 board.
    512Mb PC2100 DDR
    XP Pro SP1
    IE 6.0 SP1
    Advent Browser
    Running Internet on Netgear FA311 ethernet adaptor
    Running Home Network on NForce2 on-board LAN

    Have installed, and run, Ad-Aware 6, Norton utilities (Internet clean-up etc), JV16 power tools, and Norton Anti-Virus. Also tried a recommended tweak program, CyberTweak, for my internet connection, all to no avail.

    Anything else you need to know, ask and I shall supply.

    Help please.

    I have heard that if you have poor wiring or a poor contention ratio then your adsl connection will suffer badly. Some routers can test noise levels on a line, you may want to check if yours has this function and search the net for people suffering the same fate in you area.

    Hope you sort this out, there is nothing worse than paying for something you ain't getting.
