KCleaner : easy and automatic System Cleaner

    Let me introduce my latest software to you : KCleaner

    It is a tiny application (small memory footprint) than helps you keeping your system clean of unwanted / temporary files.
    It has a manual mode and an automatic mode which periodically scans and clean you computer.

    Hey, that's great and all, but if it's not on your download page at the link you provided, how can anyone check it out? :confused
    Here's the download page for KC Software http://www.kcsoftwares.com/index.php?download and I couldn't find any mention of KCleaner, let alone a download link for it (but it does look like there's some other cool apps there ;) )

    I'd prefer to know what its deleting, not blindly clicking ok.

    Then click on "Options->Expert mode" and it will show you the exact list of files to be deleted before removing anything and you'll able to (de)select files you want to keep.

    Hi Kyle

    Not a bad application, do like your applications Kyle and know you have many on Majorgeeks for download already, I tried the portable version as I do like to have a cleaner app on pendrive, found it actually finds stuff that CCleaner does not on older installer files that are not needed... which is really good, so cheers for this noteably from Apple iTunes, did find a few bugs though in both normal and expert mode.

    Minor GUI marked in blue, even streching the window doesnt change this, top icon and scrollbar need moving slightly left.


    No total saved size circled in red does not show when you analyse for potential saving of junk files.

    OS is Vista Ultimate 32bit
    2GBRam
    Nvidia 8800GTS
    logged on in Admin account, did also run the app in "run as admin" same issues noted.

    Something still isn't right. The Analyze button showed that I would be removing 4. some odd gb of crap (recycle bin), but the total saved only showed 435mb.

    Hi Kyle

    Cheers for the speedy GUI fix, looks neater now.

    This is possibly what Adryn is seeing, in the first image as you click analyse you get the reading at the bottom of 6.85mb / 495 items and after clicking clean the resulting total saved is only 5.8mb as in second image, admittidly only a 1mb difference for me, but the difference I would imagine is much more as Adryn likely had more junk/deleted files to delete.

    The difference is due to locked files that KCleaner can't delete (but detects).

    What would you suggest ?

    Hi Kyle

    I'm no programmer, but could you add a routine that would run at boot/re-boot as a Run-Once to clear up these locked files?

    I tried running your app as admin, but still the same.

    I'll see if I can reproduce. It isn't just locked files causing the issue.

    Hi Kyle

    By the time i get chance to test this app of yours you've released a few updates, well latest one works fine for me, the main differences in what you can delete in Vista in the majority lies in wether you run the app normally or with elevated permissions, elevated permissions allows access to some locked folders so does delete more.

    Your app is getting better and better per later version, love the standalone version, helps greatly to be able to run an app from USB Pen, so cheers for this version.

    Wondering though what 0000757: [New Feature] Hotfixes Uninstall shall be cleaned is removing as if its the windows hotfix update uninstallers, then it maybe one of those options you dont have set as default, only reason I mention this is at times if a hotfix is causing an issue and its uninstaller is removed it can be a pita to remove as you cannot install many of them again to add the uninstaller as it will tell you you already have said KB hotfix ( resorting in the use of System Restore ). I would personally deem this option for powerusers, who likely keep backup image files of their OS or have fully tested their PC for any issues with a hotfix, for many users and in this age of large HDs space is not as much an issue to delete theses unless your 100% sure your PC is working fine with latest udpates, and even with your PC working fine, their are later hotfixes that can cause issues with older ones....... Just a thought.

    Concerning Change Log item 0000757 : i was truely wondering to set it on or off by default. Since CCleaner has it enabled by default, i chose to do the same.

    Btw users can untick it before any harm is done as KCleaner opens Settings page automatically the fisrt time the app is launched on a computer.

    Now know why I dont see this in CCleaner as Vista does not have that location, I agree many can untick it, but this why I mentioned the hotfix folder http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=301681&SiteID=1 ( old thread I know and likely it was some time later that CCLeaner enabled this by default as last time I used XP and CCLeaner together was Nov 2006 ) some $NTKBxxxxxx's are not win updates but applications that some try and then may not like.

    First off , I know there is nothing that exists NOW, I was simply posing the question as to the future. I do not know how often the developer of KCleaner posts or even visits this board. For that reason he may be more apt to respond to a thread he started, that's why I piggy backed the question here.
