    hi,

a couple days ago when i tried opening "my computer" all the shortcuts on my desktop disappeared for a second and I could only see my background, but then all the icons would return but 'my comptuer' didn't open

I tried to open other programs, some worked and some just wouldn't open
like control panel also wont open same thing happens

my internet browsers like mozilla and internet explorer work fine.

i know i dont have any spyware or viruses i scanned for that.

    any help would be appreciated.:)

Look in Windows Event Viewer for clues (red or yellow flags).

Did you try Start > Run > eventvwr.msc?

If you have your Windows installation disk try running system file checker (sfc /scannow), and a Windows repair (if needed).

If no joy, you're probably infected again. You know the drill...

You're welcome. One at a time, double click the most recent two or three errors. In the box that opens press the copy button (it looks like two overlapping pages) and paste it to a text document, then copy/paste to a reply in this thread.

But first you should run system file checker, and the applicable fixes in SAS > Preferences > Repairs (if you haven't already uninstalled SAS). Reboot. With a little luck your system functions will be restored and the errors will stop.

The first error may indicate malware damage, but whether it's from current or past infections I can't say. Even if you don't have your Windows disk, run sfc as above. If sfc prompts for your disk you will know that Windows files have become corrupted.

Update MBAM and SAS, boot into safe mode w/o networking and run complete scans. I would also run a online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner (temporarily disable McAfee real time protection first).

The Tf items have to do with PCTools ThreatFire. Do you have or did you have ThreatFire installed? We need to fix it so it works at bootup or clean it off completely if you have uninstalled it.

I updated both as scanned in safe mode and mbam found i was infected with a trojan called "Trojan.BHO and had it removed and now everything is working fine. As to previously when i was running mbam in normal startup it wasnt finding anything. But that was the problem now evverything is working fine.

Thank you very much for your help. :)

ttocca, you're welcome but you're not done yet! Please post the log from MBAM to determine if you need to reopen your thread on the malware board. At the very least you still need to clear out your system restore points, as DomLuc says.
