Yes and no, for file transfers it would make a difference, but wouldn't make a difference with the ineternet speed.

the 802.11n spec keeps getting pushed out, but whatever speed they "up" that too doesn't excite me as near as much as the much better range/coverage capability ... so keep that in mind a year or two from now.

if you are a gamer i woudl recommend avoiding wireless in general. randol lag spikes are a killer. If you are close to ur wifi router then you are fine (by close i mean CLOSE) hardwireing yourself is what i would do. besides ifi is slower then hardwired cables. or atleast the conenctions speeds i get on my wireless G at college. WiFi is also iffy. for web browsing its fine.

Depends on the connection. 802.11b would HEAVILY bottleneck my internet connection, especially seeing how the throughput is lower than the shown connection speed. As well, WEP/WPA taxes 802.11b connections, moreso than 802.11g.

    I have a 9Mbps internet connection.

I've heard this argument several times. I did tests wired and wireless. Differences in actual latency was within ~2-3ms of each other in games. To me, thats liveable.

As for lag spikes, none here. I can game anywhere in my house, and even on the back porch without loss of internet performance, or latency problems.

But it goes without saying. Crap equipment yields crappy results.

Ard it really depends on the distance. its annoying when im gaming and i lose my WiFi. and also if u got a phone operating at say 2.4ghz and a router at 2.4 u would have some problems

True, distance makes a difference, but if my weenie dlink can cover over 1400 square feet...and MIMO routers cover more than that.

New technology helps with the 2.4ghz issue.

My Airport Extreme card offers Interference Robustness, and new MIMO routers arent affected much at all by 2.4ghz.

That, and 11 channels of slight variations to 2.4ghz makes a difference.

Being a newer technology, most G equipment offers stronger encryption if security is any concern.
