PC Hangs

    PC hangs and makes grinding sounds. It happens periodically.

    Windows XP serv pack 2
    recently added imeem and windows live onecare
    no error codes
    device manager ok

    Can you tell where from you compuiter the sound is coming from?
    It might be from you hard drive.

    I'm thinking hard drive too.... that would also explain the locking up. It could be a fan going out, but usually if a fan is dying, you don't get lock up; you get shut down due to thermal overheating or you get totally whacked-out behavior, sometimes followed by a lockup then a shut down.... BUT- it's probably the hard drive. Find out who made your HD, visit their web site, download and run their diagnostic to find out about your HD's health....

    Also if you had fan going out you would usually have a burning smell (At least that's what i always got when i would have a fan go bad on me).
