    Hi,

I was out working happliy and my son was on my computer all day as he is currently off school.
When I came home and power on machine to check mail found that it took a little longer to get to my desktop from logon than usual, this was fine as i figured i was a victim of usual spyware. Thought I just run spybot to clean and that would be good again.... that was the least of my troubles :-(

Also found that ctrl + alt & delete to view task manager was grey out, how wierd. Then accessed my system32 directory to run taskmanger exe from there to be told that it had been disabled by the administrator. I fast googled this problem to find that all i had to to was enable in regisrty or run a command in run box. When tried to cut & paste this had no effect. I then tried to drap and drop a file I also cannot do this so i now cannot move any file on my machine.

Lastly any item i minimise it actually closes down instead of putting in my task bar. Asked my son what he had done he just said he installed a bit of s/w from the net that did not work so turned of computer. Can only assume that this is what has caused the problem but have no idea how to fix, has anyone else seen this problem? I think issue is within windows regisrty is this correct?

Any help would be much appreciated! - Thank in advance.

PS. Running Windows XP Pro Service pak 2

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    Questions:
    1) Was your son logged into your user account? If so, why?
    2) It your account Password protected? Are all accounts password protected (including the Administrator account that only shows in safe mode)? If not, why not?
    3) Does you son have his own user account with Restricted Priviledges? If not, why not?

There are quite a few malware infections that can cause problems like this. It would be best if you would, please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis
