Stuck at "Auto Detecting Sec-Slave" on boot for 30 seconds.

My BIOS is the latest beta BIOS from Intel. I never used to have this problem but now when I boot my system hangs for 30 seconds every boot. It says "Auto Detecting Sec-Slave" ... for about 30 seconds then it gives up and boots normally.
I have 2 80gig SATA HDDs in RAID 0, DVD ROM as sec-master and CD-RW as sec slave.

Is this a problem with my BIOS? My CD-ROM? My jumper settings?

Did you update your Bios prior to this happening?

If so as that mobo has both Intel and Promise Raid options, depending on if your using the Promise Raid, if not go into the Bios and disable Promise Raid.

No I did not update my bios. I installed 2 new sata hdds and am using raid 0, which is when this problem appeared. :)

When using Raid it does have a tendency to scan the drives for integrity for a short period of time and this is natural ( mine I think is 5-10secs ) however yours at 30secs seems a bit excessive.

which raid option are you using Intel or Promise ( your mobo has both )?

quicky question... what you mean by this? ( just so I understand where your coming from )

Yes it does scan the drives, briefly. It actually gets stuck before that, when it does the scan of my dvd-rom & cd-rw. It is actually doing it in the POST stage, or seems like it is.

I am using Intel raid. It is listed in the bios as my 3rd boot device.

I am using 1009.004 from www.asus.com (I made a boo boo and typed intel when I meant to type asus).
This isn't actually the latest, but second latest bios now.

    I know what it is.

It's my bios post message displaying an error saying that it can't read the cd-rom, which is set as slave on the secondary ide cable.

This means it could be a jumper problem right?

ok a test.... pull the power connector from the cd-rom to disable it and re-reboot, is it better?

Yes that works. But what can I do to resolve this problem? :)

Is jumper in slave position and not master or cable select?

Yes it's in slave and I tried it in cable select, it's still being bothersome.
I can't use the latest firmware for it because I get an error message saying that no compatible device was detected during the installation process.

It says in the POST "ATAPI Incompatible" for my cd-rw.

A different cd-rw drive fixed the issue.
