    Hey all,

Im looking into buying a 23" lcd hd-tv.

What are the difference's between a hdmi and a dvi connection? Do they replace scart connections? Is it worth getting one over the other etc?
How does an xbox 360 connect to a tv?

Hdmi is high def so it is slightly higher quality than DVI I think. the Xbox 360 comes with composite cables and the premium pack comes with component HD cables. My opinion is it isn't worth getting one over the otehr unless they are similar in price. theya re both digital, component is not.

    Thanks splitter.

If I wanted to connect my laptop to the TV what cables would I need to buy and what connections would the TV need to have?

I have this laptop. The connection it has on the back can be seen here.

I was thinking of getting this TV.

Is it possible to connect the two?

It is really hard to tell, but it looks liek your laptop has a vga out, taht site doesn't have very detailed specs so i can't tell, probably not. that is a great tv though, samsung is the best.

Its the same as this on my laptop, which I think is a VGA-out.

here is a link with a more detailed spec.

Can you tell now if they will be able to connect? I hope they can as its kind of the whole point in buying the TV!

your laptop has VGA, the TV is DVI. you would need a VGA to DVI cable.

Note: all HDMI hardware is HDCP compliant. Some, but not all, DVI hardware is.

Thanks for all the responses and info everyone.

Im still a bit confused, is there a cheaper way to go rather than acejones link?
What about component video, would that work?

If I buy a VGA to DVI converter, will I still need a seperate lead for the audio? I remember reading somewhere that DVI only carries audio. If so what cable would I need for the audio?

Is there a cheaper way to go than this? I just blew $750 on my TV so I dont really have $400.
Would component cables work or maybe s-video? Would there be a big dip in quality?
    Would something like this work?

Ok,this is the last question. I promise. Below is a picture of the back of the TV im getting. Can I just get a male to male (15-pin) D-sub cable? (plus a seperate lead for the audio)
