unable to download combofix.exe and mgtools.exe.

Please help.

Are you a spy?

Please give us more information to work with. What symptoms is your computer having that made you come here in the first place? Are you getting popups? Browsers opening and closing? A red desktop? Your computer shutting down unexpectedly? What operating system are you using? Were you able to run ANY of the instructions which preceed the installation of Combofix and MGTools?

symptoms - Slow. Also IE explorer always is crashing and gives the following message: Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are blah blah blah.

As a result, I've done some initial check for spyware/malware. There were some found. Now I am trying to do the Windows XP cleaning procedure but can't seem to DL combofix.exe and MGtools.exe. The other 2 files, AVG adn Spybot I was able to DL.

If you do not have Firefox installed, please install it and try using it for part of the work. In the event that you need to do scans which require IE, I'll let you know. Firefox can be downloaded here if you don't have it (at the top of the page right now, or if you don't find it there, then scroll down to Mozilla Firefox:

Please do Spybot and AVG Antispyware 7.5 and if you still can't download the MGTools, then I'll ask you to do two online scans that are particularly good, BitDefender and Panda (which DO require IE).

Be sure to run CCleaner in the default setting and have Spybot and AVG Antispyware fix everything they find and post the AVG Antispyware log here. If you are still unable to download the MGTools after that, I will ask you to download and install some of the tools individually.

Here is the sequence I've ran the tools:
1. spybot - 2days ago
2. AVG - 2days ago - No availabe reports
3. Combo - today
4. mgtools - today

see attached for reports.

Also, i think i know why i wasn't able to DL combo and mgtools. I was using firefox to dl them. I now dl them using IE successfully.

Some of the online scans we use don't work with Firefox and neither do Windows updates, but other than that, everything should work with Firefox, including the downloads.


1) Please go to Start/run, type in msconfig and set your startup mode to normal startup.


2)Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the below:

- Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

3) You have Teatimer running which will block the fixes we need to do. Please disable it as per these instructions:
