Windows won't boot, blank screen on startup

hey everyone,

need some urgent help,

My PC, when started normally or in last known good config, starts but just before it would usually get to the welcome/login XP sign, the screen goes blank nothing moves, not even a mouse.

I tried it in safe mode, it usually runs a load of directories then starts windows, however it stays on one of the directories, "agp440.sys" and does not move after that.

Any advice would be helpful, any alternative to reinstalling windows??

Please help asap, i need the comp.

This seems to be a known problem.
Windows XP tries to use an incompatible motherboard chipset video driver during startup.
