I'm interested in a memory management application for Windows 98 SE and note that there are zillions here:

    which one?

I know that Windows 98 SE is poor at memory management and after firing up several applications/windows then closing these down the PC slowly grinds to a halt, forcing a reboot.

    PC Spec is:

    HP Pavilion 6405

    Memory upgraded to 128MB PC133
    Disk upgraded to 30GB

I only have experience with MemTurbo. I actually never really noticed a difference before and after use, but thats just me.

Any win9x OS has this problem. Win9x wasnt made to run continuously, that was why NT was built, basically. Most memory management programs wont make a big difference when it comes to speed in general, but somtimes they are useful after using photoshop lots, and you might want to do somthing afterwards short of rebooting. Okay i exagerate, but you get the idea.

If you havnt already, you should use Cacheman ( http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=308&cat=26 ) to tweak PF/swap file usage and stuff like that.

As a question, how much RAM?

    Personally ive only ever used
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=2475&cat=26
    and
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=2195&cat=26
didnt make that much difference for me (with 256 MB ram)

    Hope this helps a little

Try a freebie "Fast Memory Defrag" from
www.ams.as.ro which is good for when w98 is staggering under the load of trying to hold on to closed files etc after finishing with a program. It workd very well and is a useful source of info about whats going on in the internals

Robert, the fast defrag prog was on of the links that Goldfish gave....;)

Don't forget that MAJORGEEKS is a file site too!! Not just the wonderful forums!

and I use Fast as well... I am very pleased. Before I run UT2K3, I will close all apps and then run FAST and it frees up almost 100Mb of RAM (I am running 1Gb of Ram)...

    wow..!

I used to use it occasionally after startup before games or heavy duty image/video editing. Kinda gave up tho since it wasnt making any noticable difference.
On my webserver i set up a while back, i used a memory recoverer to keep it going under heavly loads. it did a defrag every time ram got to a critical level. Not sure it actually helped at all, but worth a try i guess! :D
