    Hi guys,

New here, someone told me about this place and to come and ask you guys because you could answer it for me.

I'm more a end-user not a "techie" but I need to do some technical stuff on a file I update it with the new version of the program it works with.

I have a file with the extension .MLL

It's part of a "plug-in" for a program used in 3d software and for it to work with a newer version of the program they said I need to edit it and that it was easy.. lies >.< I don't know. It probably is for you guys.

    soooooooooooooooooo.

Question is, what would I use to edit this file? When I use wordpad/notepad etc it opens with a half of page of symbols and such with some txt in between.

Any help would be great! I need to get back productive on this part of the project ASAP

    Thanks!

An mll is basically the same as a dll.

If http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1946916 tells about your .mll file, I assume you are using Maya. I found what appears to be part of the manual at http://caad.arch.ethz.ch/info/maya/manual/DevKit/PlugInsAPI/buildAreaSetup.doc.html It says that you need to compile from source to use the plugins in the first place, so that's probably why they thought you could edit it. If they had told you where to get the new source, you could just compile it, instead of editing the old stuff, unless you need the old version for some reason. Then again, you could have had someone else compile and install them, in which case you may need to go to them for help, unless you want to ask more questions here. If you choose to ask here, we like to help. :)

It would be good if you gave the program version, and the name and version of the plugin, and whatever you remember about the edit(s) they said you would need to make. If they just dismissed you by saying you need to edit it with no directions, it will take research or someone familiar with Maya plugin source. I found the support page, which supposedly gives documentation, at http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=8782084&linkID=10809894

One more thing: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Fo...l/thread/47ad4b1a-c920-4a44-bc48-ef730ed1d241 tells where the files you need to edit are usually located, but it says you need to look through thousands of them to find the one for your plugin, and you will likely need help editing/compiling it. I think they are used to programmers using Maya to help them design games, which is why they said it was easy.
