LOL. I bought 10 ebooks from Baen Books last night, each one under a magabyte, and I saw speeds drop to that level. ON DSL. Slow servers suck.

For sure. There seems to be a whole lot of them, too. Only time I get even NEAR respectable speeds is when I split the file up (or rather, WellGet (I know its a stupid name, but it works) splits the file for me), or use BitTorrent downloads. I've not seen a single server that I can download at full speed off single threaded.

What sucks more is: these files are about 90MB... each. *sigh*

If I notice it's that bad quickly, I'll usually try aborting the download and starting over. Sometimes I get a better rate the second or third try. Not always, but it sure pays for itself on a large download if it works.

Adrynalyne, is that a home connection? Looks pretty sweet as is mine. The new Verizon FIos is coming soon here and offers a 15mb down/3-4mb up for just about the same price as what I have now

Not the best results I've seen for my connection. Usually more like 3400-3500k.

I havent had stability problems with this modem until about 4 weeks ago, since then its been on and off, and at times down for a few hours, or just seconds. When I first got it, it was rock soild, wonder what happened

What are you using? I have an SB5120, and it seems pretty good. This upgrade is only a week old, so I think Cox is working out the kinks. There are some disgruntled folks on dslreports.

I'm at 4700 down 400 up on a SB4100. Of course I've had that modem since my cable was installed. Maybe it's time to get a newer cable modem.
