What are good batteries for a walkman? Are lithium batteries better than alkaline?

In the long run rechargable lithium batteries are way cheaper. They don't perform quite as well as your usual alkaline batteries, but they have the huge advantage that you can recharge them with no problems.

I've recently purchased some Energiser rechargables (850 mAh AAA's) for my PMR's (walkie talkies) - and they perform just as well as the equivilant Duracell use once. They're NiMH HR03 ones rather than Lithium. Also got the same ones for my wireless keyboard and mouse. Very good batteries indeed.
