My thread is no longer 'within the malware forums' I searched and found nothing, but under my profile statistics found it within 'all threads started by TheBlackClap'.

I then looked at the time I created the thread and the last action and referred that time within the MALWARE forums and found nothing.

This is not a bump, some how my thread was 'lost' and am now reviving it because I still need help.

    Thanks

It has been two days and still no help. MAjorgeeks used to be a lot better at turn arounds; either you guys are overloaded or don't care.

I have the logs here, so many other people don't have all the logs and you have to tell them to post them and paste the directions for them. Why not just help the people that do it right the first time?

    Hello, TheBlackClap

I apologize for the wait - please allow me some time to review your logs.

On the contrary - we care very much, that's why we devote our free time and talents to helping infected users such as yourself. Our job would be so much easier - if ALL users would respect that fact and ALL the Malware Forum rules.

    * This is especially expected of MajorGeeks' members of over three years!
Now then, hoping that you have a greater understanding of how the forum is run, on to the removal:

    Step 1:
First: You need to move ComboFix.exe directly to your desktop, as instructed in our READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

NOW - Navigate to C:\Qoobox and delete all SnapShot.dat files. <---- This is the cause of your huge ComboFix.txt log, brought on by NOT following instructions from your "Mar 4 2008 & Apr 18 2009" malware threads.

    Step 2:
Look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall if found. If you get any errors just make a note and continue on.

    Step 3:
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Step 4:
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Step 5:
Open CCleaner - select "Cleaner" > "Run Cleaner" <---use this function ONLY!

    Step 6:
Then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Please attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • C:\avenger.txt

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!

    Dr.M,

I fully understand, I do apologize. I am recalling how fast an issue was resolved a few years back. I need to practice patience, it won't happen again.

I was able to run everything as directed.

However, I would like to mention, that my wife contracted a pop-up on this computer since I posted the original logs. I am sure some thing will show up in these new updated logs.

I haven't noticed a change in the performance, maybe because of this pop-up malware. Here are the two logs, thanks a lot!

Your logs are clean. If your you wife's account is having problems then you need to clean it. Cleaning your account does not clean other accounts.

Cleaning malware does not necessarily change performance. Most performance issues are not related to malware. And you did not have any malware to remove anyway. What dr.m gave you were just things you needed to do.

Wait a minute!..... I just realized I was looking at your old MGlogs.zip file. Your last log shows that you picked up a new infection that was not prevously present. Hang on while I dig thru in more detail and I will give a new fix.

What do you have still installed from Symantec that requires the below:
    LiveUpdate 2.0 (Symantec Corporation)

If nothing is installed from Symantec, uninstall the above.

Also uninstall the below software which should have been uninstalled while originally running step 5 of the READ & RUN ME:
    Search Settings 1.2

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: chargeyourprofit browser enhancer - {3024AF3D-25E5-E741-CF85-F3D26AA94FDF} - C:\windows\system32\ipdvgnsxlozhj.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bmxtnsnmdnb] C:\windows\System32\regsvr32.exe /s "C:\windows\system32\ipdvgnsxlozhj.dll"

Also if you wish to improve startup time, optionally fix the below which are not malware but are unnecessary.
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WMPNSCFG] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\WMPNSCFG.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Chaslang,

I completed all of the actions you required. I did not see all of the optional fixes while using MGtools, so I just went to ccleaner and disabled what I did see from the startup programs; will this suffice?

    Thanks a bunch!

    You're welcome.

You should not be using CCleaner to control startups. See this link Dealing with Startup Process given in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Chaslang,

Thanks again for all your help, and to Dr. M as well.

I will review the HJT tutorial on how to deal with start ups, as I have used ccleaner for all of my startup programs.

Till next time, though I hope it is awhile!

    You're welcome.

Actually you would be better off with Autoruns which was given in that link. HJT is more for permanent removal of startups although you could restore from HJT backups if you keep the folder around but that is not really recommended since some scanners will detect them as problems.
