I can't even reformat.

While using Limewire, I seem to have picked up some sort of virus or worm.

From looking around, it seems that I have something called a/the p2pworm?

I tried using BFU like is stated in the common fixes thread, but it didn't help anything.

The symptoms are the same you hear about... task manager won't open, regedit won't open... on top of that, my PC is pretty sluggish, and Limewire was constantly opening itself until I deleted it off of my PC.

I didn't really feel like fighting with it, so I was just going to use the reformat disks that came with it (its an alienware) but when I put in the boot disc and restart, it just restarts like normal... with no prompt to reformat or whatever.

I have a feeling whatever is needed to reformat is also disabled somehow.

Where is the best place to start to track this down?

What fix are you referring to?

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis

Actually, I was in the midst of doing that list... I downloaded everything... I got all the way to the part of restarting in Safe Mode... and it wouldn't let me.. some kind of error.

So, I said forget it and I figured out how to reformat... (I assumed it would boot from the disk automatically, but it didn't... once I told it to boot from the CD rom it worked fine)

I'm updating everything now... thanks though!
