    Hello,

    My fathers computer has this on going problem where every 10 seconds or so an error message appears saying "Windows Explorer is not responding....restarting now". And every time you tried to go on the internet or into the control panel the error message would show and close everything down.

    I restarted in safe mode with networking and ran through everything (all in safe mode with networking). After I was instructed to restart after running SAS I got a blue screen in normal mode. So I restarted in safe mode with networking and ran malware bytes. Upon that restart the same Windows explorer error messages were popping up in normal mode so I restarted in safe mode with networking and ran MGtools. While running that I got a message saying that I didnt have a 64bit system. But I checked and I do have 64bit windows 7.

    Thanks!

    Also, I didn't know whether to put this in this forum or the Hardware forum. I apologize if I posted this in the wrong one.

    Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    • Right-click OTM.exe And select " Run as administrator " to run it.
    • Paste the following code under the [IMG] area. Do not include the word Code.

    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\Windows\TEMP\datC4D5.tmp
    C:\Windows\TEMP\mspnp30f.exe
    C:\Windows\TEMP\RES7B96.tmp
    C:\Users\Andy\Local Settings\TEMP\368A.tmp
    C:\Users\Andy\Local Settings\TEMP\843C.tmp
    C:\Users\Andy\Local Settings\TEMP\is-J93DH.tmp
    C:\Users\Andy\Local Settings\TEMP\is-L5A7P.tmp
    C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\\Local\349634.exe
    C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\341910042.exe
    C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\920434414.exe
    C:\Windows\TEMP\lSKRCmGJix.exe

    :Reg
    [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "lSKRCmGJix.exe"=-
    "Mqsrc"=-
    "MqmPfQ"=-
    "MqmPgP"=-
    "MqmPxc"=-

    [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
    "22409"=-
    "706146"=-
    "18832384"=-

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [ResetHosts]
    [createrestorepoint]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large [IMG] button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * OTM log
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi Tim

    I had to run both OTM and MGTools in safe mode with networking.

    The Windows Explorer error messages are still coming up about every 10 seconds. They say "Windows Explorer has Stopped Working...windows is checking for a solution to the problem". Then says "Windows Exploer is Restarting" and the screen goes blank (screen saver is still there) then comes back up with the icons. Only now, Internet Explorer doesnt close everytime.

    Besides this problem, everything else seems to working fine. It is hard to completely tell what is working and not working when the error message keeps coming up.

    Ok....let's do this:

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now:
    Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.

    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    • It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    • Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    • Click the Make Writeable? button. (if you only see a Make Read-Only selection, it is already writeable so skip this button).
    • Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program

    Now tell me what issues you may still be having, if any.

    The error messages still come up and happen every 10 seconds.

    Sorry for the hassel.

    I am going to suggest that you post in the software forum for assistance with that error message. It does not appear to be malware related.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
