Computer acting weird.

I just purchased this computer second hand from what I thought was a reliable source. I have not changed or added anything since the purchase. I did download Avast but decided to stay with what the previous owner had in place. Which is WebrootSecureAnywhere. The issues I have been encountering since the first day are, inability to keep a connection, notices that the drive needs to be scanned and restarted for repairs, and freeze ups.
