    Hi all. Is it possible to copy only one key in a reg from one computer to another? If so, how? Also if you know what key is missing from a reg and also know the syntax for it's creation,can it be done?Thanks.

    In regedit, any key can be exported via the "file->export command", which saves the key as a ".reg" file. Moving that file and double-clicking on it will attempt to add the key to whatever computer the file is currently on.

    Please bear in mind, making ANY change to a registry key is a big deal, and definately could cause problems, possibly even making a computer unbootable or worse.

    Defiantely "perfom at your own risk" type stuff! :)

    You can import and export the file via the File menu in the Registry Editor(Start, run and type in regedit then OK).

    However, I would assume that both machines would need identical environments, or at least very similar.

    I've never tried this, so it's all based on theory.

    If you are having a problem with a machine, there is probably a better way to fix things than playing with the Registry.

    I've done this quite frequently, in a large network, via a logon script. It is possilbe to PUSH a registry entry to all machines.

    I just want to say, a lot of fixes are found on the internet for particular problems. These fixes are for certain problems. So, you can take that, and say it is possible to export a key from your computer, and import that key on another computer.

    But, the first question, is thus......What key are you trying to import into another computer?

    Certain keys can be tricky, even with identical hardware. Mainly: HKLM\Hardware......

    The Key that I have deleted is : LOCAL-MACHINE_SYSTEM/Current Control Set/Control/Virtual Device Drivers/ .

    Ummm, you didn't DELETE the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers

    ????

    Though, you may be okay. I personally, only have:

    VDD = C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswMonVd.dll

    So, you may be okay.
