Hello guys. My father has a PC, IBM NetVista 8313-61G,
running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3.
    Motherboard info: Intel i845G, 82801DB (ICH4).

I don't know how but he lost the audio drivers.
Anyway, when I connect the speakers I am asked to install the "SigmaTel C Major Audio, AC97 WDM" drivers. I do it and then it also asks me to install this file: "stac97.sys". I found it and installed it as well but it doesn't work. Maybe it's not the correct one or something is wrong with its version (I tried the Realtek AC97 audio drivers, too and they didn't help).

P.S There is a "high definition audio driver package kb888111" installed, not sure if he needs it though...

So, where can I find and download the audio drivers that I need? I informed you about the model, the operating system and the motherboard,
so I hope that you can help me. PLEASE. Thank you so much!

Hi, Dimitra. Welcome to Major Geeks. :)

Did you by any chance go to the IBM/Lenovo Support site, enter the Serial Number of the computer and go to the Drivers/Downloads page and get the correct driver for that particular computer? Have you enabled the device in Device Manager? Is sound muted (System Tray — speaker icon with red circle having a diagonal line)?

Hey, thanks for replying. :) I went to the website and I choosed to search the product by machine type (8313-61G) but there were no results, I think that they don't support this model anymore, IBM announced it a few years ago.

By the way, I can't find the speaker icon. When I open the "control panel" it says "No Audio Device". I tried using different speakers (and headphones, as well) and the problem still exists, so I guess that it needs the correct SigmaTel audio drivers and then it should be fixed, right?

If you enter the Serial number of the computer, you may find different results. My Dell was made in 2005 and if I enter the Service Tag number, I still get the drivers and downloads for it. BTW, it uses the Sigmatel C Major audio as well. Yes, the proper driver should solve the problem. However, make sure to uninstall any audio drivers you've installed via Device Manager (right click the device in the tree and choose uninstall driver) first. Then install the correct one.

Even today, if I enter the Service Tag number of the Dell I got in 2001, I can still get drivers and downloads for it. Try entering the serial number of your dads IBM at the IBM/Lenovo support site.

You could try one of many apps that search an internet database of drivers and advise you of which drivers are outdated/missing on your system.

    IObits Driver Booster: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_driver_booster.html
    Slim Drivers: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/slimdrivers.html

Just download, install, and run. Then choose to install the necessary audio drivers and reboot.
As always, make sure to create a system restore point prior to installing the new drivers, just in case things don't work out as expected.

Is the computer in question a laptop or desktop?

This is the serial number: KDGA8LH according to the program "Belarc Advisor"
and it doesn't help. This is the system model: IBM 831361G.

I found a page called "NetVista 8313 - Lenovo Support" and I could find the drivers there BUT when I entered it said that the page doesn't exist.
So it seems that like I said Lenovo/IBM doesn't support this model anymore.

My dad lives in a place where there is no internet connection so a program that would detect the drivers online, would not be useful at all.
I have to find the drivers, transfer them using a usb stick and install them.

    Here some sound drivers
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=12170&lang=eng&ProdId=824
    http://www.driverscape.com/download/sigmatel-c-major-audio

    Also Realtek software http://152.104.125.41/downloads/dow...&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#AC

If you get it working, may I suggest you backup the non-MS drivers and put them on a CD should you need to reinstall any again.
Before I got into making images of my computers, I used to archive all the drivers so I had them handy if I needed to reinstall.

We finally decided to buy and install a new sound card and it worked.
    Thank you ALL for replying!

    Thanks for reporting back.

Don't forget to archive all the non-MS drivers on the computer so if you need to reinstall, you'll have them.
It's old but has been tested on XP Pro

After all the drivers are collected on your hard drive, burn them as a data CD.
