I have IE 6 and all of a sudden, I started having this problem. If I click on a link it will open it, but only that 1st link....if I visit a different website and click on a link it just opens up a blank window. So i have to close IE and reopen the page and click the link. So basically it lets me open 1 link and after that it just opens them to blank windows that cannot be refreshed. I formatted my system and it didnt help. Can someone explain this or tell me whats going on. Thank you ....any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

    • Shdocvw.dll
    • Actxprxy.dll
    • Oleaut32.dll
    • Mshtml.dll
    • Browseui.dll
    • Shell32.dll

Windows XP and Windows 2000 only
Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.

if you have problems finding the files they are in %WINDIR%\system32

Alterativly copy the code below into notepad and save it as fixielink.bat and run it

    Code:
    regsvr32 %WINDIR%\system32\urlmon.dll /s
    regsvr32 %WINDIR%\system32\Shdocvw.dll /s
    regsvr32 %WINDIR%\system32\Actxprxy.dll /s
    regsvr32 %WINDIR%\system32\Oleaut32.dll /s
    regsvr32 %WINDIR%\system32\Mshtml.dll /s
    regsvr32 %WINDIR%\system32\Browseui.dll /s
    regsvr32 %WINDIR%\system32\Shell32.dll /s

Go to Tools > internet options > advanced and uncheck Reuse windows for launching shortcuts.

I understand. :) You might contact one of the Administrators of MG's and run it by them.

    Thanks steve.

DJM you may also want to check what applicaiton is associated.

Goto View -> Folder Options -> File Types (in windows explorer) and check the values for 'URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol'
It should probably be something like "C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (assuming thats where your IE is installed)

    When you get a chance.

If you have the Yahoo Toolbar installed, uninstall it thru Add/Remove in the Control Panel.

Windows explorer is the 'thing' you view files in. Double Click on 'My Computer' the window that pops up listing your drives is part of windows explorer. Do it from there

yes that is exactly what is in there....this is so frustrating! I do 3 different college courses on the computer and it makes it virtually impossible to get my homework and stuff done with my pc like this, I can't figure this out for anything.

you could try usinf SFC to extract oleaut32.dll from your windows disk copy it to your system32 folder. This tends to be a last resort.

When you followed Matacumbie's instructions did regsvr give a success message for all the files ? and did you reboot?.

Check the Add/Remove programs and make sure the Yahoo Toolbar is not there.

I agree with Matt, we are running out of options here. :)

    1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

    2. Click the Programs tab.

    3. Click the Reset Web Settings button.

What is in the other boxes when you check the application for URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol.

DDE should be set to: "%1",,-1,0,,,,
    Application should say: IExplore
DDE application not running should be blank
    Topic should be: WWW_OpenURL

Are you running Office 2000 at all ?

Do links do this only in IE or from other programs such as outlook?

Also please take a look at this Microsoft Article

Ensure you have all the updates for office 2000. SP3 is the latest service pack I think.

If you don't please use Microsoft Update to ensure everything is up to date.
