    Hi Guys;

    I performed a startup repair on a friend's Windows 7 Pro laptop and now his gadgets are corrupted.

    The situation is explained here, but no solution is given.

    Can you help me fix it?

    Hi have you tried deleting the gadgets and then re-installing them, as I found a few times a errant Windows 8 app just needed uninstalling and a reboot and install again.

    I have tried this. I uninstalled the gadgets from windows 7 and had windows reinstall it. Then place it back on the desktop, but it still appeared as transparent squares.

    Blujay...

    Did the startup repair require you to redownload Windows updates? Remembering all the fuss over gadgets back in 2012, when MS pulled the plug on the gadgets store and wondering if an update could be causing the problem (following the repair). Windows security patches can be unforgiving sometimes I have found.

    Not sure I would know how to test this other than to remove updates back to around that time. This is a pretty big chore. Hopefully, someone has something else you can try...

    I did do a couple updates. I wasn't aware that MS pulled the plug on gadgets.

    Oh, well it was stock ones as well that were giving trouble, so I guess, the updates are not the problem then.

    Hi

    Does this PC have IE11 installed as it raised the DPI and caused a similar issue to what you have mentioned, to fix check in Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display that the DPI is 100% also update the graphics card driver.

    2nd thing to try is to re-register some DLLs and from an elevated (admin) CMD prompt type the below and after each one hit enter

    regsvr32 msxml3.dll
    regsvr32 scrrun.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    The reboot and check
