    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.

    Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

Are you now able to work your way through these instructions?

my computer doesn't boot up. So I can't use Defogger?
Also not sure if I need to run Defogger. Sorry this is my sons computer and they have done crazy things to it. But they have learned a lot about computers so that's good.

It looks like most of this applies to a machine that can still boot to the OS?

Re run FRST like you did the very first time. I assumed that after following my fix you WOULD be able to boot up. Attach the log from the scan and let me get a fresh look. :)

Exactly what happens and how far do you get?

Have you tried booting in safe boot mode?

One other thing to check.... other than your keyboard and mouse do you have anything else connected on USB ports? If yes, unplug them and see if you can boot up.

You have have to post about this in the software forum to look for help on booting windows.

  25. Galactichero

    Galactichero Private E-2

It will not boot in safe mode
The Starting Windows screen comes up then goes into Startup Repair but always says there was a problem repairing
and there are no other devices plugged into USB ports

Have you tried using System Restore from the Recovery Options.

Again you may have to post in the Software Forum to see if they can find a way to get your PC to boot. Otherwise you may be looking at a reinstall.

This is not the typical Windows Defender Offline scenario that we have seen. The fixes applied with FRST have repaired those issue 100% of the time thus far.
So something additional appears to be wrong here.

Please run a new scan with FRST ( like the first message you posted ) just so we can see if anything else is showing up. Attach the new log.

Okay so we will remove along with a couple more questionable items but I'm not too confident that this is going to allow it to boot up.

You're welcome. We are quickly running out of things to try in this forum but let's investigate a few more options.

When booting up to the Advanced Boot Options ( reference this > http://pcsupport.about.com/od/termsag/p/advanced-boot-options.htm ) menu do you see a choice to use Last Known Good Configuration? If yes, give it a try.

If the above does not help or work, from the same Advanced Boot Options screen, try the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option to see if you can boot to a command prompt. If you can get to a command prompt this way then type in the below command and hit enter:

    sfc /scannow

See the below for information on what sfc is:

    http://support.microsoft.com/KB/929833

Tell me exactly what happens while running sfc.

If you could not boot to safe mode with networking then boot back to the System Recovery Options menu ( the way you were running FRST. ) See this for reference > http://pcsupport.about.com/od/termss/p/system-recovery-options.htm But this time when you boot to the Command Prompt, try running sfc /scannow from here. Again tell me exactly what happens.

  33. Galactichero

    Galactichero Private E-2

    last known config...no good
    safe mode w/command prompt..no good
all end with System repair screen
tried running sfc /scannow....will not run, says there is a repair pending. Restart and try again. I did, still not working.
Also per your suggestion I have submitted to the software forum

thanks a million for still trying

This may be due to the System Restore attempt that did not work. Try running the below with FRST to see if it change this.

Download this >> View attachment fixlist.txt

Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.
Now reboot back into the System Recovery Options as you did previously.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (See how to attach)

Now boot to the command prompt and see if sfc /scannow will run

  35. Galactichero

    Galactichero Private E-2

    ok, ran fixlist
booted back to prompt and still pending
also tried safe mode with prompt just to see but goes to startup repair

Okay then I suggest that you continue in the Software Forum at this point.

If you have any important data on this hard drive you may want to look into slaving it to another computer so that you backup your files.

Yes that is what I was hinting may be necessary back in message # 26 but it was worth trying a few things first.

As note we have successfully repaired more than 100 of these types of issues cause by WDO but your seemed to be different.

Glad your back up now! :)
