How Can I Mute The Beeping Sounds My Motherboard Makes?

I'm using a processor adapter in order to use a pentium chip that's not meant to be on my motherboard. It works fine and has been for two years. The processor adapter basically fools the motherboard cpu slot and tells it to use the pentium chip that is really meant to be used on another motherboard. The only downside this has is that the microcode is not in my bios and thus every time I boot my pc, the motherboard beeps once and shows the following notice:

"microcode not found - to continue press F1"

Once I press F1 windows begins to boot and all is fine. But I'm getting sick of the loud beep coming from my motherboard when that notice comes up. It's also bad when everyones sleeping and I decide to turn on my pc. I can try a bios update that may have the new microcode in it which is basically like some sort of new cpu number my motherboard would use to identify extra info on the processor. But there is no bios update with the new microcode for my motherboard. & even if there were one it would be a shot in the dark to know for a fact that it has the microcode update.

Isn't there a way for me to shut off my motherboards "beeping" speaker via windows or something? Theres no such option in the bios settings... So I don't know what to do. I'd like to shut the darn thing off.

    Thanks

Yup, there may be a tiny speaker the size of your thumb hooked up to the mobo's SPEAKER jumpers. Disconnect it.

Personally I would try and put up with it. That speaker will also give you BIOS beep codes which may be an important indicator if anything goes pear shaped with the PC. Make sure you remember that it is dis-connected if anything starts going wrong, then re-connect it, so you may be able to listen to the "beep codes" for an indication of the potential "error code".

    Here's the speaker:

I never thought of pulling it up... I'm going to check if it is removable by tugging on it. Wouldn't my motherboard ruin if I take it off? I am kind of scared to try and tug it. You guys probably know more about these speakers by looking at the picture above to let me know if it is removable. So I guess I'll wait for your responses before I start tugging the old mighty bugger. Lol.

Probably not a good idea to pull it off! Try putting a piece of tape over the top of the speaker. That should make it quieter.

That little speaker is soldered into holes that go all the way thru a multi-layered PC-Board. Pull on it and you could wreck the board. Leave it alone!

We've been putting tape over those little speakers for years, to tone down the sound level.
If there's problems with RAM, etc., that speaker will give you a beep code to point you in the right direction to troubleshoot the problem.

If that mobo has pins where you can install an external speaker, there may also be a jumper to select onboard or offboard speaker. Check your board specs. I've seen that option on several mobo's over the years.
If you have such a jumper, moving it to the offboard position would shut off the onboard speaker.

    Good Luck,

So what kind of tape would be the best to use over the speaker?

Whatever you have laying around. :-D I guess duct tape or electric tape would work best.
