I was having a problem getting rid of a 'roings' spyware thing that came up on my Adaware SE scan constantly, so I went to a support site (don't remember which one) to get an idea of how to permanently remove it. There was someone with the same problem and the person told them to run hijack this, click on all of the boxes that came up and click fix. So I decided that I sould do this too...Well now, whenever I try to type a password into my email and bank account, I get a "this page can not be displayed" page error.
Is there any way to fix this??? Please help. Thank you

If you did what they said and clicked fix on all boxes that came up, you are lucky if anything works correcly. What version of HJT did you run (hopefully it was 1.98 or above) and hopefully you had it installed correctly so you go backups you can fix things from.

Great...I never do stupid stuff like that. Well, the program is version 1.97.0.7. I do have a backup file from like June. Can I use this to restore everything? How about system restore? If I can fix this with the backup file, how do I go about doing it? Thank you

A backup file from what! If you are talking about HJT, it did not create backups before version 1.98.0.

Going back to a system restore point prior to making those changes may be your best bet.

Ok...I have to change my information here. I went into the backup section of HJT and of course, I didn't back up last nights mess. And the back up from June I talked about below is a file in the HJT folder. Can I do anything with thes? Will the computer's system restore work? If it will, what do I need to do? Thank you so much

Is it really a backup file or is it a log? I thought it was 1.98 that started saving backups but I noticed that even in 1.97.7 there was a backups button. Maybe it is what I was thinking of is that in 1.98.x it did automatic backups of changes. But at anyrate may not do you much good for what you just did. I believe the backups may only store what you change (fix). Thus you may be out of luck there and will have to try system restore. System restore is only a feature of WinXP and WinME. What is your OS?

Check this out for WinXP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/getstarted/ballew_03may19.mspx

I have to leave now.... need sleep. I've been up since 6am and it is now 1:20 am. We can continue this later. See where you can get to with what I gave you.

Thank you so much for helping me out. I was able to use the system restore tool and my computer is back to it's old self...roings and all. Is there a safe way to remove these permanently? I remove them with AdAware, then go on the internet and they come right back.
    Thanks again! You rock...

I'm happy to hear the System Restore worked out. You could have been in for big trouble.

Please follow all the steps in this Sticky thread < READ ME FIRST: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal >

If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

If this does not resolve your problems, let me know and we will proceed on to other methods.
